Overwatch 2 dev teases upcoming Winston and Reinhardt buffs

Other changes to benefit the tank role are in discussion

Alec Dawson, the lead gameplay designer on Overwatch 2, revealed in a recent interview that two tank heroes are set to receive a buff very soon: Reinhardt and Winston.

On one side, Rein is getting back his 300 damage charge in an attempt to make him more relevant, even though his pick rate seems to be on the up since his Season 10 buffs. Winston is also getting some love, with the team aiming to improve both his ultimate ability and secondary fire.

These are not the only tank heroes mentioned in the interview, with changes for Mauga also being discussed. The development team is looking to modify his Cardiac Overdrive ability and how efficiently it can set other heroes on fire.

Dawson also talked about nerfs on crowd control abilities like Sombra's Hack or Ana's Sleep Dart. We might see a nerf on these abilities in the future, with the hack taking longer and sleep darts being less effective on tank heroes. However, these changes are not set in stone and are only in the planning stages.

With Roadhog being one of the strongest tanks in the current meta, it will be interesting to see if these changes affect the pecking order in the competitive playlist. It is unclear if these changes will arrive in the next few weeks or if players will have to wait until the mid-season patch.

In the meantime, you can expect a new Transformers collaboration event and Summer Games 2024 to bring both brand-new and returning content to the current season.
