Destiny 2 x Ghostbusters crossover leaked

Who you gonna call?

Destiny 2 has had plenty of collaborations in recent years, in fact there's a Mass Effect crossover happening right now, but perhaps none would be as strange as an upcoming Ghostbusters one that recently got leaked.

The Bungie Leaks Twitter account shared an image of Slimer, the iconic green entity that's been a part of the Ghostbusters franchise since the very first film in 1984.

They added that no armor could be found among the datamined files that popped up with the recent 7.3.5 update, possibly hinting that this collaboration might focus entirely on cosmetics or that armor pieces are still being worked on.

Destiny 2 does have an annual Halloween-themed seasonal event, Festival of the Lost. It usually starts around early to mid-October and ends around mid-November. It's entirely possible that Bungie may be working on a Ghostbusters-themed event and future updates will bring additional content for dataminers to uncover.

Having said that, waiting seven months would make little sense if the plan is to tie in this crossover with the upcoming Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire film, which is slated to release on March 22.

The film is a Columbia Pictures production, which is a subsidiary of Sony Pictures Entertainment. It stands to reason that this upcoming collaboration will be a marketing ploy utilising a gaming studio with a big player base like Bungie, which is owned by Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), to promote their upcoming release.

Regardless, we'll have to wait and see what type of content players can expect from the Destiny 2 x Ghostbusters crossover.

In the meantime, there's plenty of content for you to enjoy now in Destiny 2, including the start of the Guardian Games, which brought a brand-new vehicle, the Allstar Vector Skimmer. PvE content like the Prophecy dungeon got a loot refresh, so there's no better time to grind it.
