On July 10, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege time-limited event MUTE Protocol made a return. The game mode will be available for three weeks as its doors will be opened until July 31.
For some, MUTE Protocol is one of the best seasonal events launched to Ubisoft's title. This game mode is unique, as players must get kills to climb through the weapon standings. After unlocking the tenth weapon tier, the player is given a golden hammer that can be used to destroy the main objective: the brain case.
Despite the event's popularity, Ubisoft's decisions regarding MUTE Protocol's skins have been controversial to say the least. In what's an unprecedented release, the bundles included in MUTE Protocol's previous editions have been given a different colour to feature in this year's edition as new bundles.
Shortly after noticing, most of Siege's community went berserk. However, there's a reason behind Ubisoft's decision: the Memento Weapon.
This legendary skin for Mute and Wamai's MP5K called The Betatron Annihilator can only be acquired by first collecting all of the cosmetics included in MUTE Protocol. This means that players will have to open all of the MUTE Protocol packs, which can only be obtained by purchasing them with Renown or R6 Credits. Luckily, Ubisoft will also give out free packs to the players who complete the weekly challenges.
The reason why Ubisoft added previous bundles in different colours may be linked to Marketplace. With players having to acquire all of the MUTE Protocol cosmetics to unlock the Memento Weapon, they could simply use the Marketplace to purchase the skins instead of spending R6 Credits to open the MUTE Protocol packs. Additionally, players could speculate with the price of the skins released in August 2020 by trying to sell them for an abnormal price.
Although this is only a theory, it would explain why Ubisoft have added these new versions of previous MUTE Protocol skins. On top of those, Ubisoft also added bundles for Alibi, Brava, and Glaz.
If you want to unlock the Memento Weapon, there's only two things you can do: playing Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege to gain as much Renown as possible or getting some R6 Credits. Regardless of what option you take, keep in mind that MUTE Protocol's last day in the game is July 31. Until then, have fun playing this futuristic game mode!
