Destiny 2 makes three major expansions free-to-play ahead of The Final Shape

Get ready for the grand finale

Destiny 2 makes three major expanions free-to-play ahead of The Final Shape

Bungie has announced that three major expansions will be available for free from May 7 up until June 3, a day before The Final Shape DLC drops, letting players enjoy plenty of content to get ready for the conclusion of the Light and Darkness Saga.

The expansions in question are Shadowkeep, Beyond Light, and The Witch Queen. Lightfall, the most recent DLC which was released just last year, isn't part of what Bungie is calling Open Access.

Lightfall is however coming to the PlayStation subscription service PS Plus, meaning that if you're interested in trying out Destiny 2 and are a PlayStation user, you essentially have all content available right before The Final Shape drops.

Shadowkeep is the oldest expansion available in the game following the removal of all story content prior to its release. It launched in 2019 and set the stage for many story elements that have been developing in future expansions.

It was followed by Beyond Light in 2020, perhaps the most important of the three available expansions during the Open Access period as it will give players the ability to use the Stasis subclass, the first Darkness subclass in the entire game.

Bungie is making it clear they want everyone, from new players to returning veterans to be able to enjoy The Final Shape when it launches. Even if you're not interested in replaying old content, the free-to-all Into the Light mini-DLC has been extremely well received by the community.

Into the Light brought iconic weapons back to the loot pool, added free activities to play such as Onslaught, saw the return of exotic missions, and even tossed in a few cute sidequests that tasked players with finding Archie the Exodog.

We've heard the phrase many times in the past but we truly believe now it's the best time to jump into Destiny 2, especially if The Final Shape ends up delivering on what looks to be a glorious finale, with the inclusion of the game's craziest subclass, Prismatic, among many other features.
