Cayde-6 narrates the latest trailer

Destiny 2 The Final Shape

Even though players are enjoying the new free content added to Destiny 2 with the Into the Light update, the community has their eyes up for the arrival of The Final Shape. This next DLC is probably one of the most anticipated for the game simply because of its importance for the overall story.

If you are planning on acquiring it and playing it since day one, we have gathered all the important details revealed so far about its additions.

Release date

Destiny 2 The Final Shape is scheduled to come out on Tuesday, June 4 at 10:00 am PT (6:00 pm BST). Before the DLC drops, servers will go down for a maintenance period to allow developers to set everything up for launch.

The timings for this maintenance should be announced a day or two before the arrival of the expansion.

Trailer

Here is the first trailer for the expansion, which teases us the mysterious return of the Exo Hunter Vanguard, Cayde-6:

A second cinematic trailer was released to tease the upcoming journey inside The Traveler that guardians will have to go through:

The first gameplay trailer was revealed in a developer livestream that took place the same day Into the Light was released and it gives us a look at the upcoming new subclass that will be introduced with the DLC:

After getting leaked on social media, Bungie released a new story trailer earlier than anticipated where Cayde-6 narrates about his whereabouts inside The Traveler. The preview also teases us about the return of a few ex-antagonists like Savathûn.

New subclass: Prismatic

The Final Shape will introduce a new subclass called Prismatic that is set to shake up the game's current meta. This new subclass will open the doors to Guardians for infinite combinations as it will allow players to use both Light and Darkness powers.

In other words, players will have the ability to combine different elements in their guardian's builds, breaking the game's limitations from before. Each main class will have its own set of abilities available to learn from the different subclasses when using Prismatic, meaning that these will be preestablished.

New supers and aspects

Here is a list of all the new supers and aspects that will be introduced for the main classes along with a short description for each one:

Supers

  • Titan (Void): Twilight Arsenal
    • Throw three Void axes that pull enemies in and explode, dealing heavy damage and weakening anything left standing.
    • Thrown axes can be picked up and wielded by the Titan and their fireteam as melee weapons.
  • Hunter (Arc): Storm's Edge
    • Hurl an Arc dagger that teleports the Hunter forward, where they perform a deadly whirlwind strike as they materialize for massive damage.
    • This can be executed three times per Super charge, allowing the Hunter to traverse vast distance and devastate enemies in their wake.
  • Warlock (Solar): Song of Flame
    • Warlocks become radiant, overcharge their melee ability, and their grenade becomes a sentient Spirit of Flame that seeks out nearby enemies and explodes.
    • Allies gain increased ability regeneration and damage resistance, with scorch applied to their Solar and Kinetic weapons.

Aspects

  • Titan (Void): Unbreakable
    • Consume a grenade to create a shield that blocks incoming damage and absorbs attacks, which then can be released to deal massive damage.
  • Hunter (Arc): Ascension
    • While airborne, Hunters can consume their class ability and propel themselves upwards to damage and jolt nearby enemies, while also amplifying their fireteam.
  • Warlock (Solar): Hellion
    • Warlocks can activate their class ability to summon a Solar Soul that launches flaming mortars at distant foes, setting them ablaze.

New faction: The Dread

A new faction of enemies will be introduced this time, which will make The Witness an even bigger threat to all guardians. The faction is called The Dread and here is a list of all the enemy types:

  • Grim: A highly mobile flying enemy that slows and suppresses a Guardian’s abilities if they get too close.
  • Husk: An acrobatic melee bruiser that sends a deployable geist enemy toward you unless you hit their weak spot with a final blow.
  • Attendant and Weaver: By wielding Stasis and Strand, respectively, these units can instantly change the flow of the encounter and force Guardians to pay attention to their positioning on the battlefield.

Other details

Just to not leave out anything important, here are other minor details about the upcoming expansion:

  • Class items will now have up to two exotic perks, which will be random for each drop.
