Since its release in 2019, Apex Legends has established itself as one of the best battle royale games on the market. However, something has always irked players: the lack of variety in party size in the game's BR mode.
It hasn't been because the players don't want it or even the developers trying it, but five years after launch, the battle royale mode still only allows players to play as part of a Duo or Trio.
But that could all be about to change. According to Osvaldatore, an Apex Legends leaker of some repute, Season 21 will bring Solos and Quads to the game.
What's more, the game modes will be permanent rather than limited-time.
If this leak is true, it would be a welcome surprise. In January of this year, Apex Legends' lead legend designer Devan McGuire nixed the idea of a Solo queue, saying they see Apex as a "squad-based game," with the power of legends balanced for two and three-person parties.
The oft-requested Quads has also not been without issues. In 2021, Jason McCord, who was working as Apex Legends' design director, explained that when testing Quads internally, the combat became "untrackable [and] chaotic in a negative way."
Of course, developers change strategies, and these issues - which are game design rather than technical - may have been resolved. Osvaldatore's track record of Apex Legends leaks is well-known, so there is reason to be hopeful.
In other news, Apex Legends fans are gearing up for the newest legend. According to the leaks, the next in-game character will be Alter, a Chinese Legend who went insane after her parents were killed.
Alter will have the ability to open portals that will allow her and her teammates to quickly move around the map.
