Valorant Champions 2024: Everything you need to know

Valorant Champions trophy

The Valorant Champions 2024 will be the fourth edition of the tournament. It will be the first of its kind to be played in Asia, with previous locations including Berlin, Istanbul (European side), and Los Angeles.

As we get closer to the event, here's everything you need to know about Valorant Champions 2024:

What is Valorant Champions?

Valorant Champions is the most prestigious Valorant tournament in the competitive calendar. In a way, the tournament is seen as a World Cup, where the best teams from the main top-flight divisions compete to decide what's the best team on the globe.

How can a team qualify for Valorant Champions?

Qualifying for Valorant Champions isn't an easy task. Teams can qualify for the tournament in two different ways, these being the following:

  • Finishing among the best three teams in each region's Stage 2: The best three teams from each region by the end of Stage 2 will be invited to compete in Valorant's Champions 2024 edition. To qualify for Stage 2's playoffs, Stage 1 results are also taken into account.
  • Being the team with the most Championship Points: Teams must show consistency throughout the calendar by obtaining as many Championship Points as possible. By the end of the regular season, each region (EMEA, Americas, Pacific, and China) sends the team with the highest number of Championship Points that hasn't finished among Stage 2's Top 3. Here's how teams have been able to collect Championship Points throughout the current season:
    • Kickoff Champion: The regional Kickoff champions obtained three CPs each.
    • Stage 1 and Stage 2 performances: Each win during Stage 1 and Stage 2 awarded teams with one point. Meanwhile, winning the stage awarded teams with three extra points.
    • VCT Masters performances: Last but not least, winning the VCT Masters Madrid or the VCT Masters Shanghai awarded the champion with three extra CPs.

Therefore, qualifying for Valorant's Championship 2024 required teams to be consistent throughout the year, with Riot Games trying to make sure that only the crème de la crème qualified for this season's edition.

Teams

Only 16 teams are allowed to compete in the Valorant Championship 2024. Unfortunately, it's too early to know who will feature in this year's edition. However, here's how each region is looking as of now:

EMEA

FUT Esports has already clinched a spot in Stage 2's Upper Bracket semi-finals with a 7-2 record. Team Heretics are likely to follow the Turkish squad, as the Spanish organization currently holds a 6-2 record and a better round difference than Fnatic, who have a 6-3 record after having played one more match.

Currently tied with a 4-4 record, Natus Vincere, Karmine Corp, and Team Vitality would qualify for the Upper Bracket quarter-finals if the stage was to end today. Meanwhile, BBL Esports (4-5), Team Liquid, and Gentle Mates (3-5) are still in the race to sneak into the stage's top six. Unfortunately, GIANTX (3-6) and Movistar KOI (2-6) are likely going to miss out on this year's Valorant Championship, despite still having a slim chance of making their region's playoffs.

Americas

Following a 3-0 start, Leviatán are the favorites to take Americas' Stage 2 top seed as they currently lead the pack with a 7-1 record despite having a game in hand over the second-placed Sentinels (6-3).

The race for Sentinels' spot is still well-alive, with all G2 Esports, KRÜ Esports, and Cloud9 tied in third place with 5-3 records. They are followed by 100 Thieves and Evil Geniuses (4-4), NRG (4-5), and LOUD (3-5). Unfortunately, FURIA Esports (2-6) and MIBR (0-8) are already out of the race to qualify for this year's Valorant Champions.

Pacific

While we already know the six teams that will compete in VCT Pacific's Stage 2 playoffs, we don't know the exact seeding yet.

Paper Rex and DRX have the best odds of qualifying as the best two seeded teams as they currently lead the standings with 7-1 and 7-2 records, respectively. With 6-3 records, Talon Esports, Rex Regum Requon, and Team Secret still have a chance of hijacking Paper Rex and DRX plans. Meanwhile, the VCT Master Shanghai champions Gen.G Esports are in sixth place with a 5-3 record.

China

Last but not least, the VCT China. FunPlus Phoenix have already clinched an Upper Bracket semi-final spot. These are currently followed by EDward Gaming, who have already qualified for Valorant Champions 2024 as no other team in the region can secure more CP points than them, and Trace Esports with 6-3 records.

They are followed by All Gamers and Bilibili Gaming (5-4), Dragon Ranger Gaming and Nova Esports (4-5), and JD Gaming and TYLOO (3-5). Unfortunately, both Wolves Esports and Titan Esports Club can no longer qualify for Stage 2's playoffs.
