The Final Shape livestream was filled with information about the upcoming expansion set to release on June 4, including a brand-new look at the Prismatic subclass, the reveal of new Class Items, and even the introduction of an enemy faction led by The Witness.
During The Final Shape livestream on April 9, Bungie revealed the Prismatic subclass. They stated that it will be a tool provided by the Traveler to help players stand a chance against The Witness.
Guardians gained access to Stasis, a Darkness power, with the 2020 expansion Beyond Light. In 2023's Lightfall, players learned to wield the power of Strand. Fans expected a third Darkness subclass with The Final Shape, possibly the Poison subclass, to balance out Light and Darkness subclasses. However, Bungie has more ambitious plans.
In short, Prismatic lets players mix and match abilities from Light (Solar, Void, and Arc) and Darkness (Stasis and Strand) to create custom builds. This means having the option to choose a different class ability, grenade, and melee to suit their playstyle.
In Destiny 2's Prismatic subclass, a bar below the Super meter fills up as you deal damage with Light and Darkness abilities. When the bar is full, Guardians can use Transcendence to throw a powerful grenade that combines two subclasses.
For Hunters, it'll be Solar and Stasis, for Titans Strand and Arc, and for Warlocks Void and Stasis. On top of that, activating transcendence will also give Guardians a damage boost that stacks with others, and instantly refills both your grenade and melee.
Bungie confirmed all three classes (Hunters, Titans, and Warlocks) will be getting new Class Items that will "steal" exotic perks from armor.
These Class Items will have random drops and will add some value to the otherwise underutilized pieces of gear. As players will likely chase the one perk they need to make an OP build.
Fans are undoubtedly excited but also wary of the repercussions this could have on PvP as it could throw a wrench to the meta and how it's been played for the past few years, with optimal builds perhaps being too strong to have any room for experimentation.
On the PvE side of things, the final reveal was the Dread, a new enemy faction that will expand the gallery of minions in Destiny 2 for the first time in over 10 years. While players have dealt with variations of classic factions like the Scorn or the Taken, the Dread will be the first unique faction since the game's release.
Bungie did confirm that the Tormentors we saw during Lightfall were a tease and that they're ready to fully unveil their might when the Final Shape releases.
For now, players can enjoy what Into the Light offers, including returning weapons, a new social space, and the return of exotic missions as they wait for June 4, when The Final Shape drops.
