Not a kitty we like to see

feature image

Encountering error codes is common in Destiny 2, especially with new expansions like The Final Shape, such as error code CAT.

Error code CAT is a particularly common one with new DLC, as it appears when a new Destiny 2 update is available but not installed. While some platforms, like PC, can preload The Final Shape automatically, you can still run into this issue if you don't have your launcher setup properly.

If the error code CAT is popping up for you, here's how to solve the issue. While you're here, don't forget to check the full list of new The Final Shape exotics and how to get them.

How to fix the Destiny 2 error code CAT

The process for updating Destiny 2 is quite simple. Console players can close and reopen the game to receive an update notification. However, sometimes users may not receive the message, resulting in the appearance of error code CAT.

If you want to manually update Destiny 2, here's how to do it depending on your platform.

Microsoft Store

  • Go into the Microsoft Store app, press the ". . ." button next to your profile icon, press "Downloads and updates," and then press the "Get updates" button
  • Go into the Xbox PC app, click the "My Collection" button on the top left, then "Manage Installs" on the top right. You will then see a list of all installed Xbox games, what updates are available, and the option to turn on automatic updates. Updating the title from here will bring you in sync and allow you to connect to the game servers

Steam and Epic Games Store

  • Restart the Steam/Epic Games Store app on your computer, including exiting out of the app via the Windows taskbar tray. The update for Destiny 2 should appear under downloads that will automatically download as long as you have automatic updates enabled, otherwise, press the download button. (You may have to perform this action a few times if a new update just launched)
  • If the above solution doesn't work, please verify the integrity of game files in the Steam app to see if that will cause the update to appear under downloads
  • Additionally, you may have to clear the download cache in the Steam/Epic Games Store app for the update to appear

PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4

For PS5:

  • Turn on the PlayStation 5 system
  • Sign into the desired PSN profile
  • Navigate to the Games tab
  • Hover over Destiny
  • Press Options on the controller
  • Select Check For Update

For PS4:

  • Turn on the PlayStation 4 system
  • Sign into the desired PSN profile
  • Press up on the D-pad and navigate to the Notifications menu
  • Select the Downloads menu
  • Click on the Destiny Update File icon
  • The download will begin automatically
  • The game will be ready to play once the update finishes installing

Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X
