Bungie has confirmed that Episode: Revenant will launch with a brand-new dungeon, set to debut on Friday, October 11 at 10 AM PT/5 PM GMT.
In the latest This Week in Destiny 2 blog post shared on September 12, the developers mentioned that more information regarding Episode: Revenant will be shared in upcoming weeks, confirming that a dungeon will be released soon after it starts.
At the moment, very little is known about it besides that Revenant will kick off on October 8 with players able to experience the entire seasonal story right from the get-go, unlike Episode: Echoes, where Bungie continuously drip-fed content.
If you're a newer player who started with The Final Shape, dungeons are three-player activities that function similarly to raids but have fewer encounters. They are still highly dependent on teamwork and can introduce unique mechanics, so it's one of the highlights for the Destiny 2 community whenever a new one comes around.
The Salvation's Edge raid debuted with The Final Shape
While no specifics about the dungeons were shared, Bungie confirmed that it will debut with Contest Mode, a first for this sort of activity. Contest Mode is a modifier that will make every encounter extremely difficult, as it involves capping the Power Level of players below the recommended one.
During Episode: Echoes, players got to experience the Salvation's Edge raid, which served as a prelude for the final encounter with The Witness, the main antagonist for the Light and Darkness saga.
Bungie has been releasing a raid or dungeon with each new big update, so a new dungeon was expected with the debut of Episode: Revenant. Now, fans will be happy to hear that the developers have no plans to change this content cadence.
Since Episode: Revenant will be themed around the Fallen, it's highly likely the dungeon will see them as the main antagonists, it's also possible that it continues the story threads laid out by Episode: Echoes where the Vex took center stage.
All will be cleared in the coming weeks, as Bungie prepares the groundwork for the future of Destiny 2 with Codename: Frontiers.
