With the second day of BLAST R6 Major Montreal kicking off in a few hours, it's time to have a brief look at the matches. Later today, four teams will move to the tournament's Phase 2 while the other four will be sent back home.
Here's everything you need to know about today's matches!
Black Dragons vs. G2 Esports
The first match of the day is arguably the most awaited one as Black Dragons will play against G2 Esports. The winner of the series will clinch a spot to compete in Montreal's Phase 2.
All of the eyes will be set on Roberto "Loira" Camargo's performance, who will be playing against his former teammates only five months after leaving the Brazilian roster.
G2 Esports' weak point at international competitions are Brazilian rosters. Since the start of the year, G2 Esports has played five matches against Brazilian teams, winning two and losing three. The team's most recent defeat against a Brazilian roster was the squad's 1-2 defeat against Team Liquid in Manchester.
Meanwhile, this will be Black Dragons' second international match this year as their only performance so far was yesterday against CL4L.
The loser of the series will play against the winner of the match between ALPHA Team and FearX in the Lower Bracket.
Team Falcons vs. Chiefs ESC
Team Falcons' return to Rainbow Six Siege's international scene went well as the MENA League 2024 Stage 2 champions defeated ALPHA Team.
In what's the first international tournament for the twins Abdullah "Dov2hkiin" Alsaeedi and Abdulrahman "Guardz" Alsaeedi, and the Italian Roberto "Robby" Pintarelli, the team coached by the former MNM Gaming coach Loïc "Eden" Sennepin left a good first impression after 7-1 and 7-0 wins against the South American lineup on Bank and Nighthaven Labs.
However, the favorites to win today's clash are the Chiefs' players. After a rock-solid display against the highly experienced FearX, the Australians led by Jack "Jigsaw" Gillies, Tex "Tex" Thompson, and Anastasios "Odah" Hatzis seem to be one step ahead of Team Falcons.
CL4L vs. CAG Osaka
CL4L's international debut after the team's outstanding Last Chance Qualifier run was a thrilling 1-2 defeat against Black Dragons. Despite the roster's defeat and the fact that the team is playing with a substitute, the team left a good impression after defeating Black Dragons on Chalet.
Meanwhile, CAG Osaka's mechanical skills in the team's defeat against G2 Esports reminded fans why the Japanese are always a dangerous team to face. Although the team ended up losing, Shuuhei "ShuReap" Yaguchi's 20-kill showing in ten rounds on Bank will go down as one of the best individual performances in the last years.
The winner of the series will play against the loser of the match between Team Falcons and Chiefs.
ALPHA Team vs. FearX
ALPHA Team's situation in Montreal is delicate as the team was forced to compete with two replacements due to visa issues. These problems saw the temporary arrivals of Rene "Clipe" Clark and Rodrigo "Rovi" Quiroz.
Despite losing against Team Falcons, ALPHA Team has already exceeded expectations after becoming the first LATAM roster to win a map at a Rainbow Six Siege international competition since Six Karma defeated Ninjas in Pyjamas in April 2023.
Ahead of today's clash, FearX are the favorites to move to the next round of the Lower Bracket due to the team's experience and previous performances. Despite the team's defeat against the Chiefs, the South Korean lineup still has a real chance of qualifying for Montreal's Phase 2.
Curiously enough, if FearX win against ALPHA Team and G2 Esports lose against Black Dragons, the South Koreans would play against the European-majority roster in the final game of the Lower Bracket. The last time both sides faced was at the BLAST R6 Major Manchester, when FearX secured a 2-1 victory against the Six Invitational 2023 champions.
