Citadelle des Morts, the third Black Ops 6 Zombies map, has its own easter egg or main quest that players can complete to get some exclusive rewards and brag about it.
Just like in Terminus and Liberty Falls, the easter egg can be completed with any number of players, so you don't need to have a full squad. To help you with it, we have prepared a guide explaining every single step.
How to complete the Citadelle des Morts easter egg
Before jumping in, we want to state that this guide won't feature any spoilers about the easter egg storyline so you can read it without any worries.
The first thing you need to do is to activate the Pack-a-Punch machine, so follow the game's indications and you can also read our guide in case you get stuck at any part.
Go talk to Gabriel Krafft right after doing this. You will need to do this in order to activate several of the easter egg steps. Head to the Dungeon area and go inside the little room behind the Quick Revive perk machine, where you will find a wooden prison door.
Interact with the door and the window will open, revealing Gabriel Krafft inside and starting a short in-game cutscene with the character.
The game will go into a break during this cutscene, so zombies won't attack if you stay inside the room until Krafft finishes talking.
Now, it's important to mention that all of the steps from here can be done simultaneously, so there is no specific order. However, we will try to give you a linear order to follow so it's easy for you to keep track of.
You will need the four elemental swords upgraded for the easter egg, so start building them as soon as you hit round 10 and the bucket zombies start spawning. We have an extensive guide on how to get and upgrade each sword here if you need it.
After talking to Krafft, head to the Sittings Rooms, the area where you can find the Stamin-Up perk machine. Here, you will need to grab four pages with red symbols painted on them.
These pages can spawn in at least nine different locations at random and here are screenshots of all the spots so you can check them in your game (you can take a look at the minimap in each one to know exactly where it is):
If you can't find all the pages after checking the spots showed on the screenshots, keep looking in the same room as there are a couple of extra spawn locations we didn't show.
Once you have the four pages, it's time to go to the bar from the spawn area to memorize six symbols. There are exactly six dark flasks distributed all over the bar, each one with a Roman number indicating the order. You have to interact with each of them to reveal the glowy blue symbol you need to memorize.
Here is the location of each flask in order (look at the minimap if you can't tell where in the bar is any of the flasks):
The blue symbol on each flask will vary per game, so write them down or take pictures of each one before moving on.
Now you must acquire the Melee Machiatto perk to do the next step. The machine is by the castle's main entrance, when you go up to the right side of the castle's rampart.
With the perk acquired, head down to the castle´s Undercroft, the underground level right next to the room where the Pack-a-Punch is. In there, you will see a piece of the wall that looks cracked.
Melee this wall to break it and you will see several tiles with blue symbols like the ones you saw on the flasks.
For this puzzle, you will have to shoot the six symbols you saw in the bar in order. However, after shooting the first symbol, the tiles will start shifting places, stopping every few seconds.
Shoot one symbol during each pause until you've shot all six. If the order and the symbols are correct, a red energy orb will open a wall recess with a book to the left of the tiles.
Interact with this book to place all four pages you collected back in the Stamin-Up room.
Now it's time to use the map's floor traps to charge the four symbols displayed in the book. As you can see, the book has four red symbols, which are different for each match.
Each symbol represents a floor trap you have to activate and charge by killing zombies inside it. This is the order you need to follow to avoid any confusion:
All floor traps have the same symbol, but the parts glowing in red are different in each one. Look at the first symbol and then go look for the corresponding trap on the map.
In case you are a bit lost, these are the floor traps we are talking about:
They look like manhole covers and will start glowing in red after activating the Pack-a-Punch. They are highlighted with a trap symbol on the mini-map, so it's easy to spot them.
Once you find the correspondent trap for the first symbol in your book, activate it and start killing zombies while staying inside the circle. After eliminating enough zombies, the trap will immediately go off.
At this point, you can go back and look at the book to check if you did it correctly. If the symbol is now off, the trap has been charged and it's time to move on to the next one in the order of the image we showed you previously.
If for any reason you run out of zombies because the round ended and the trap hasn't been charged, dont worry. Just wait until the trap is ready to go again and use it again.
After charging all four traps, a red energy ball will go to the staircase between the Undercroft and Sitting Rooms (the area where the Stamin-Up perk machine is) and reveal the following symbols on the wall:
Now it's time to get the four incantations, each corresponding to one of the elemental swords. This guide explains in great detail how to get all four of them.
Having all four elemental swords and Incantations, it's time to unlock the Mystic Orb. For that, go to the wall drawings discovered after charging all four floor traps on the staircase between the Undercroft and Sitting Rooms (where the Stamin-Up perk machine is).
This wall indicates the next step's order, with Roman numbers right next to each logo, so write it down or take a picture since it's different for every game.
Now go to the Dining Hall, where the four knight statues are. Here, you will have to use the Incantations to charge each statue and then inspect the corresponding sword to make the statue salute.
If the first symbol on the wall is the stag, go to the knight with the stag symbol on its chest, use the corresponding incantation towards it, and start inspecting the stag sword immediately after. You don't have to point at the statue when you inspect your sword, just do it close by.
Then you will have to repeat the process three more times, following the wall's order. In case you haven't familiarized with the symbols, here's the Incantation and sword corresponding to each statue:
- Knight statue with a stag - Stag Sword and Electric Incantation
- Knight statue with a crow on its shoulder - Raven Sword and Dark Incantation
- Knight statue with a lion on its chest - Lion Sword and Light Incantation
- Knight statue with a dragon symbol on its chest - Dragon Sword and Fire Incantation.
If you are playing solo, you can find all four swords in that room since they will return to their corresponding knight after you drop them. There will also be four chests, one in each corner, where you can grab the Incantations.
As an example, this is how the Lion statue will look like after shooting the correct incantation at it:
And here is a screenshot of the statue saluting after inspecting the corresponding sword:
After this, the statue will glow yellow, meaning you have completed this one and it's time to do the next one. Once all four statues have been charged and saluted, the will emit a beam of light a meet in the middle of the room, revealing the Mystic Orb.
Grab it and now you have to charge it four times at specific spots in the map. This upcoming step can be done in any order, so don't worry about that.
One of spots is in that same room, on the second floor to the opposite side of the Vulture Aid perk machine.
Interact with the spot to place the orb and then interact again to start the ritual to charge it. For this one, green orbs will appear all over this room and you just have to go through them to charge it.
The next spot is in the castle's courtyard, close to The Arsenal machine. For this ritual, you have to kill zombies with fire. This can be done with the Fire Incantation, the Dragon Sword's charged attack or using Molotovs.
The next one is in Town Square (spawn area) and you will see the spot right before going through the left-side gate, right next to the chest where you can grab the Electric Incantation.
For this one, you need to kill zombies with electricity so use the Electric Incantation or the Stag Sword's charged attack.
The fourth and final spot is in the Undercroft, the area right next to the Oubliette Room (Pack-a-Punch room) and you can find it right next to the chest with the Dark Incantation.
Once you've done all four rituals, return to the wall with symbols in the Undercroft Stairway and interact with it to place the charged Mystic Orb.
The wall will disintegrate, revealing a secret room where you will meet the Owl. In there, he will give you a new item called Guardian Key that you can use to go into the final boss fight.
Pick up the item and now it's time to make all the preparations for the boss fight. Get your weapons, pack-a-punch them to level 3, get all the perks, pick up your preferred sword, etc.
Once you're ready, head back to Town Square and interact at the bottom of the statue in the center to place the Guardian Key.
At this point, all players in the game need to accept the prompt to start the final boss fight. Once everyone has confirmed this, the statue will come alive and all players will be transported to a circular area that looks like The Crazy Place from Origins where you will have to defeat The Guardian.
This is a three-stage boss fight where you will also have to deal with zombies spawning all over the place. For the first part of each stage, you have to bring down The Guardian's shield to be able to inflict any sort of damage.
Once you start damaging its health, there will be some spots of the boss on fire. Those are the critical spots where you can make extra damage if you shoot them.
At the end of each phase, the boss will return to the center of the arena and become a statue again. Several normal and special zombies will spawn and once you defeat all of them, the boss will return and go into the next stage. The boss will gain new attacks at each stage, so be wary of its moves at all times.
On top of that, the arena will become smaller after each stage, with lava emerging from the edges and stopping you from going further out. The lava can down you super quickly, so avoid it at all costs.
After defeating the boss, it will drop down an item that you can pick to activate the final cutscene.
