Loot boxes are reportedly in development for Marvel Rivals

Overwatch 2 Legendary loot box

Marvel Rivals is about to receive many new features with Season 4, but there is apparently another one in the works for the future: loot boxes.

According to user RivalsInfo on X, logic for an item called Mysteries was recently introduced in the game's files. Mysteries is just the codename for loot boxes, which was present before, according to the same source. The account also shared a possible image of what these loot boxes will look like once they are implemented into the title:

Although it's unclear how long this feature has been in the works, it is clear that NetEase is taking another page out of Blizzard, implementing a loot box system to reward players.

We still don't know if Rivals will also adopt the same system, offering the loot boxes only through non-purchasable methods. However, this would be the logical step, as selling them would cause uproar among the playerbase.

Another thing to consider is that Rivals still don't have as many cosmetics available as Overwatch 2. Blizzard has released a ton of cosmetics over the past 7 years for Overwatch 2, which is part of the reason why the loot pool available in loot boxes is so healthy.

The feature might be in development, but we assume it could take a while before it is released. In the meantime, we will keep you informed whenever we hear more about this and other things coming to the game.
