Terminator: Survivors, the eagerly anticipated open-world survival game set in the Terminator universe, is set to make its launch in early access on Steam confirmed this Fall. The news was confirmed by publisher Nacon, who unveiled it at the Nacon Connect 2024 event.
Releasing on Steam early access on October 24 and PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S at a later date, the game is developed by Nacon Milan. It will be the developers' first foray into the FPS genre.
Navigating the aftermath of the iconic Judgment Day and Skynet’s devastating cataclysm, Terminator: Survivors promises a blend of base management and first-person shooter mechanics, allowing players to either go solo or team up in co-op groups of four.
Specifically, Terminator: Survivors is set in 2009, after the events of the first two films, possibly implying they won't take into consideration the events of subsequent films.
The reveal date trailer didn't show actual gameplay footage, focussing instead on setting the universe's atmosphere with a brilliant CG cutscene, showcasing human survivors scavenging for resources as the looming threat of the T-800s is searching for them.
According to Nacon Milan CEO Marco Ponte, Terminator: Survivors will initially pit survivors against one another before slowly realizing there's a bigger threat that will push them to join forces.
In Terminator: Survivors players will face the dangers of the post-apocalyptic world, and trying to cope with the threats posed by other human beings. At first survivors in the game world will be unaware of the existence of Skynet and the Terminator, but later will join forces with other survivors and discover the truth about the ongoing conflict and begin to fight back.
Players will also have the opportunity to meet iconic characters from the franchise, giving players a sense that the story isn't completely set apart from the rest of the universe.
