Who is Edward Richtofen in Black Ops 6 Zombies

Richtofen returns! What does it mean for Black Ops 6 Zombies and the Dark Aether storyline?

Edward Richtofen from the Call of Duty Zombies saga

The new cinematics trailer for Call Of Duty Black Ops 6 Zombies has all but confirmed the comeback of Edward Richtofen. While the trailer did not show Edward in the flesh, the mere teasers were enough for fans to predict what’s coming next.

Edward appeared on multiple editions of Call Of Duty, with his appearance going as far back as COD World at War.

Background Of Edward Richtofen

Edward Richtofen, also known as the Butcher or Eddie, and numerous other names, was part of a research team whose task was to analyze Element 115.

As Edward’s passion for the incredible capabilities of the element grew stronger and stronger the leader of the research group, Doctor Ludvig Maxis, started to view this as insanity.

And rightfully so, because Richtofen’s motivations, goals, and behavior were opposite to when he first signed up for the research team.

Edward’s personality changes when he makes himself the test subject for his teleportation experiments. Due to this, he was teleported to the Moon, where he became corrupted with the Dark Aether.

Throughout successive versions of Call Of Duty, where we’ve seen Edward make an appearance, he has had numerous personalities. In some instances, he’s a bloodthirsty sociopath who loves violence more than anything in the world, while in other instances he appears in a rather quieter and calmer version.

Players also get to see his personality unfold from childhood, all the way to adult life.

What to Expect From Edward Richtofen in Black Ops 6 Zombies?

To answer this question with clarity, we must go to the events that unfolded in Cold War Zombies, which also showcased Edward Richtofen. Here, he’s seen closing down the Office of Requiem due to the failure of Operation First Domino.

Operation First Domino was a failure for Edward, merely because of Samantha Maxis. Samantha, in an attempt to stop Richtofen’s evil pursuits, and to help the strike team, sacrificed herself and enclosed the Dark Aether entity inside her.

This forced Edward Richtofen to put an end to Requiem. He also caught the Strike Team and sent them to prison indefinitely. Though the whereabouts of the crew were a mystery, the recent trailer of Black Ops 6 shows the location to be Terminus Island.

Hence, it’s fair to say that Edward will return as an Antagonist, or will play a major role in the latest edition of Call Of Duty.

Fan Theories Regarding Edward Richtofen in Black Ops 6 Zombies

There have been multiple online theories, and interviews with game insiders and game directors that have predicted or vaguely described the possible role of Edward in later versions of Call of Duty since the Cold War post-credits.

According to a recent interview with Kevin Drew, the scripter for Call Of Duty, it has been predicted that the crew will discover more about Project Janus while plotting to take revenge on Richtofen.

In the gaming space, there are interesting theories as well. For some, Edward Richtofen is an anticipated main villain for the newer COD editions, while some suggest that he’ll play a major part, but not be the main antagonist.

Whatever the real storyline is in the upcoming Black Ops 6 Zombies, it’s certain that die-hard zombie fans cannot wait to get a taste!
