Varrel have clinched Japan's last spot at the BLAST R6 Major Copenhagen after defeating CYCLOPS athlete gaming in the RJL Last Chance Qualifiers. With this result, Varrel have joined SCARZ and NORTHEPTION to represent Japan in Copenhagen, Denmark, later this month.
Before meeting on Sunday, Varrel had fallen to CAG twice earlier in the season. First, the teams met in the group stage, as they later on clashed again in the match for fifth place.
Finally, both rosters would clash again in the RJL Last Chance Qualifiers. However, the result was different this time.
CAG started the series on the right foot as the Japanese defeated their opponents by 6-8 on Villa with Sho "BlackRay" Hasegawa and Reon "Anitun" Sakai leading the Cyclops with 14 and 13 kills, respectively.
Varrel's 7-4 win on Chalet would send the series to map three, Theme Park. After sending CAG to overtime, Yuuya "Aokayu" Okazaki gave Varrel the win following a 1v1 clutch in the final round of the match against Anitun.
This will be the first time that CAG misses out on a Rainbow Six Siege Major since Aug. 2022, as they didn't qualify for the Six Berlin Major.
Varrel's win also means that three Japanese rosters will make their Siege Major debuts this month. Prior to the start of the 2023 season, Japan had only sent three teams to major international competitions -- eiNs, NORA Rengo, and CYCLOPS athlete gaming.
