The VCT 2021 Stage 2 Masters Reykjavík and VCT Masters Madrid champion Tyson "TenZ" Ngo has announced his retirement from competitive Valorant in a seven-minute video on his personal X account.
After competing in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, the Canadian decided to try his luck in Valorant's competitive scene. Eventually, he became one of the best players the game has ever seen.
After concluding his patch in Counter Strike, where he competed for Cloud9, among other teams, the Canadian jumped to Valorant's competitive scene as he represented the blue organization in multiple regional tournaments.
In March 2021, TenZ moved to Sentinels. In his time there, the player led the red roster to multiple top-flight trophies in the North American region. After winning the VCT 2021 North America Stage 2 Challenger 2 following a 3-0 victory against his former team, Sentinels qualified for the VCT 2021 Stage 2 Masters Reykjavík as they took North America's first seed. In May 2021, TenZ became an international champion under Sentinels after defeating Fnatic at the VCT 2021 Stage 2 Masters Reykjavík.
The Canadian's first Valorant Champions performance came in December 2021. Unfortunately for him and his teammates, Sentinels fell against KRÜ Esports as they couldn't make it out the group stage. The team's underwhelming performance in Berlin, Germany, was followed by a lack of international play in the 2022 season. In 2023, the team's results didn't improve.
However, the 2024 season was completely different. After winning the VCT 2024 Americas Kickoff, Sentinels were crowned international champions almost three years later after defeating Gen.G Esports at the VCT Masters Madrid grand finals.
After missing out on the VCT Masters Shanghai, Sentinels ended the season with a fourth-place finish at the Valorant Champions 2024 as they lost against Team Heretics in the Lower Bracket semi-final.
