Just before the game's 7th anniversary celebrations, the developers at Krafton have released a new video to talk about their plans and content roadmap for PUBG in 2024.
Even though not every single new piece of content coming this year was announced, the development team highlighted some interesting features and changes that are on the way to improve the overall user experience.
Roadmap
First off, here is the video with the developers explaining several major improvements and changes that they are working on:
The video is almost half an hour long and if you dont have the time to watch, here are a few highlights on whats to come for every single major aspect of the Battle Royale title:
Gameplay
- Destructible map environments will be introduced, meaning that players will be able to not only destroy buildings to a certain extend, but also modify the different terrains on a map. Some of these features will be introduced with an update in April.
- World will be modified to feature elements akin to a season, collaboration, or mode. These will maintain their core gameplay.
- Gunplay updates will be rolled out every two months, allowing for more frequent adjustments to address balance issues swiftly and foster a stable gunplay ecosystem.
- Gunplay changes will be added first to the Arcade mode before making their way into Normal matches and Ranked.
- The team is transitioning to use Unreal Engine 5 and it's also laying the groundwork to allow for User Generated Content (UGC) in the future.
Survival items and various modes
- The team is planning to add items that facilitate transportation and looting. Support items, like the Repair Kit, will be available as world loot.
- They are also looking into the possibility of adding portable ziplines.
- Special modes apart from the traditional Battle Royale, like "Survivors Left Behind", will be refined and expanded.
Collaborations
- The game is collaborating with two vehicle IPs soon, and the image above was released as a teaser. If we were to guess, we believe one of the vehicles is going to be either Ferrari or Lamborghini.
Progressive Weapon Skins
- Progressive weapon skins are in development and the team will be expanding this option over time. On top of that, a rich Black Market experience for this new year was promised.
Matchmaking
- The overall goal is to make adjustments to have a "more balanced matchmaking environment."
- The team will also enhance the MMR system to improve skill-based matchmaking.
- A map rotation service will be introduced that takes into account regional map preference.
- Behaviour patterns for bots will be improved.
Ranked
- Rondo will be added to the Ranked map pool in April and will be added to Esports later in the year.
- New rewards solely obtainable through Ranked Play are being worked on.
- Kill will carry more weight than before in calculating Rank Points.
Test Server
- A dedicated Test Server won't be available this year.
Recall System
- The recall system will be implemented across all 8x8 maps, while Comeback BRs will be removed.
Anti-Cheat
- The functionality of existing solutions like Zakynthos will be improved and developers plan to implement more features to identify and penalize cheaters.
- Instead of just focusing primarily on Ranked, the team will be enhancing their efforts to block prevent illegal software use in normal game modes and prevent re-entry of banned users.
- The team is "leveraging advanced deep learning models trained to identify unmistakable signs of illegal software use, such as aimbots, ESP, and recoil manipulation."
