M80 have signed the former XSET Rainbow Six team, four days after the latter's departure. M80 is the new organization created by former XSET COO and co-founder Marco Mereu.
Team coach Matheus "Budega" Figueiredo stated in a TwitLonger that it was an "easy decision" for them thanks to Mereu's involvement.
M80 was unveiled less than two weeks ago, on Dec. 9, with Mereu having left XSET in Aug. 2022. The organization signed its first team in VALORANT, with the XSET Rocket League roster reportedly its next target after the Rainbow Six one.
With the move, M80 has also presumably taken over XSET's NAL license.
This new M80 team had a strong 2022 season with a quarter-final finish at the Charlotte Major and semi-final finish at the Berlin Major, where it lost to eventual champions Rogue. It also qualified for the Six Invitational 2023 as a result, despite a disappointing eighth-place finish in Stage 3 of the NAL.
However, Budega stated in his TwitLonger that 2023 will likely be his final year in the "Head Coach" position -- though he will continue with M80's team in another capacity subsequently.
Now, his team will set its sights on the Six Invitational in Feb. 2022 that it will debut at as M80.
