How to get the hang glider in Sons of the Forest

There are several tools and pieces of equipment you want to prioritize getting your hands on first in Sons of the Forest. Following the 1.0 update and full launch of the game, these priorities haven’t changed, which means you need to find items such as the hang glider as quickly as possible. 

The hang glider is one of the best forms of traversal you can access in Sons of the Forest. It lets you leap off a ledge and fly straight in the air or toward the ground at a decent speed. The 1.0 update in Sons of the Forest also added the Glider Launcher, which lets you launch yourself into the air, negating the need for a tall ledge.

Hang glider location in Sons of the Forest

The hang glider can either be in a great location or a terrible location, depending on where you initially crashed on the island.

The two easiest to find can be located on the western side of the snowy mountain that dominates the center of the map, also near one of the game's three potential spawn points.

However, if you spawned on the coast or somewhere in the dense forest, you’ll have to trek quite a distance to reach either location.

From wherever you start looking for a hang glider, you can find the most westerly one marked above, at a small peak on the west side of the mountain, near a campsite. You can view the map screenshot below to pinpoint its location. 

If you’re trying to scale the mountain from its base, we recommend starting right below the peak. You can walk up several patches of forest near the peak, and then you climb some rocks to reach its location. If you’re coming from the other side of the mountain, you can easily reach the hang glider, but just be careful not to step off a cliff. 

How to use the hang glider

Once you find the hang glider, approach and interact with it to add the item to your inventory. It’s equippable from the far left side of your inventory. After you bring it out, the glider will be around your body. From here, you can use the Glider Launcher to launch yourself into the air or find a ledge to jump off. 

Regardless of which option you choose, remember to press the 'jump' button (default: spacebar) when you want to start gliding. If you don’t press 'jump,' you’ll just fall back to the ground, which will likely result in heavy damage or death. When gliding, you can glide toward the ground and land at a fairly fast speed, but remember to try and break your glide as much as possible. After you have glided to the ground with your glider, you can leave it, and the item will be added back to your inventory.
