Is SEGA's mascot finally making it to Fortnite?

You might be surprised to hear, but Epic Games has yet to make any sort of collaboration with SEGA, and a Fortnite Sonic skin has been highly rumored and anticipated by fans.

The blue hedgehog is poised to have an incredible second half of the year, with Sonic x Shadow Generations dropping later in October and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 slated to hit theaters in December.

Earlier in the year, rumors of a Persona collaboration opened the door for speculation regarding SEGA's involvement with Epic Games, as many believe an iconic character like Sonic is due to appear in the battle royale.

Fortnite Sonic skin: when is it coming out?

Sadly, there's no official confirmation that a Sonic skin is coming to Fortnite anytime soon. However, some recent news could potentially give us an insight into what sort of collaborations we could see in the future, and Sonic seems to be a part of Epic's plans.

Sonic x Shadows Generations is releasing in October

The biggest hint we have is a survey sent out back in October 2023 to Fortnite players, with Epic gauging interest in upcoming crossovers. Among the listed franchises, the name Sonic was included.

Collaborations with Epic are all about timing. Currently, players are enjoying the Marvel-themed Chapter 5 Season 4. While, at first glance, it may look like yet another superhero-filled season, the reasoning behind it is pretty clear, with Disney looking to reposition characters like Doctor Doom and Fantastic Four as recognizable names ahead of their debut in the MCU in 2025.

For Sonic and SEGA, the situation is quite different, with the blue hedgehog becoming a popular icon outside of gaming following two successful movies and even a spinoff mini-series focused on Knuckles.

The latest game in the franchise, Sonic Frontiers, was also a commercial success. Launching in 2022, SEGA reported that the game had sold 3.5 million by May 2023.

As it stands, it feels like a matter of time before Sonic and a few of his companions will make their way to Fortnite, with Epic Games having a wide cast of characters to choose from.
