Although Blizzard has tried to adapt some of its franchises into other media, with the Warcraft movie released in 2016 as one of the biggest examples, we have yet to see a show or a movie about Overwatch.
Players have been requesting these for years, especially because of how well-received the game's shorts or cinematics are in general.
To the surprise of everyone, Blizzard reportedly started development on a show for the game with Netflix, but this never came to fruition. This is according to information revealed by Jason Schreier, a well-known gaming journalist, through his new book PLAY NICE: The Rise, Fall, and Future of Blizzard Entertainment.
The book mentions that series for StarCraft and Diablo were also in development, meaning the streaming giant was working with the developer's many IPs.
However, Schreier indicated through a recent Q&A session on Reddit that the collaboration fell through in 2020 after Activision-Blizzard sued Netflix for poaching their CFO.
The two companies had worked before this and released several seasons of an animated series called Skylanders Academy, based on the Spyro the Dragon franchise.
Whether Blizzard tries to collaborate with other platforms in the future remains to be seen, but we haven't seen any adaptation from the company ever since the release of Warcraft or Skylanders Academy.
