After the downtime for Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 4 started, leakers started to uncover clues about new features coming to the game in the files for the new season's update. One of these clues indicates that Epic is preparing to add the proximity chat feature in the battle royale mode soon.
According to leakers Wensoing and LooloWRLD on X (formerly Twitter), the new update separates some files related to proximity chat from Creative mode, so that the feature can be used in battle royale.
Given that Epic hasn't announced anything, we believe the feature won't be available at the start of the season. Instead, this could be implemented in a future update during Chapter 6 Season 4.
Proximity chat isn't something new in Fortnite, as it was first added exactly a year ago, in August 2024, but only for the Creative mode and UEFN islands. The feature was originally set to be in early access, meaning it was still being tested, which is probably why we haven't seen it yet in other game modes.
This feature isn't the only thing that has leaked about the update, with many leakers reporting that Ghostface from Scream and Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th will be added as part of this year's Fortnitemares event.
