Treyarch confirms Black Ops 7 will have low-SBMM matchmaking and persistent lobbies at launch

Less SBMM, no more disbanding lobbies

On the last day of the Black Ops 7 beta, Treyarch made some important (and exciting) announcements through a new blog post regarding their plans for the game's matchmaking and other elements.

For starters, after gathering feedback for the low-SBMM playlist, titled Open Moshpit, Treyarch has confirmed that the open matchmaking with minimal skill consideration will be available by default in Black Ops 7 multiplayer at launch.

SBMM has been a hot topic in the current era of Call of Duty, making casual playlists feel like ranked games. Although this system has been present for many years, it became a concern in the community when Modern Warfare (2019) launched, given that it appeared that skill level was massively prioritized over other factors.

Many community members had a positive reaction to the Open Moshpit playlist when it was introduced in the beta, and the sentiment carried over when Treyarch made this announcement for the full game.

The blog post also tackles disbanding lobbies, as the current Call of Duty games disband lobbies every time after finishing a match. For those who don't remember or haven't tried any old title, lobbies used to remain intact after finishing a game, and they would only disband if there was a server error or if not enough players to start a match were found.

The good news is that disbanding lobbies is no more, as the developers confirmed that "we’ll have persistent lobbies at launch for Black Ops 7."

The post also mentions that changes to rotational aim assist are being discussed and that 98.8% of matches on day 5 of the beta were cheater-free, echoing the announcement from a day before about the progress the developers have made to tackle this constant problem.

Black Ops 7 is scheduled to come out on Friday, November 14th, for current-gen consoles (PS5 and Xbox Series X|S), last-gen consoles (PS4 and Xbox One), and PC through Battle.net, Steam, and the Xbox Store. For more general details about the game, you can visit this article.
