This morning, world-renowned esports company Gfinity announced that SiegeGG will become a part of its growing network of esports and gaming sites known as "Gfinity Digital Media".
Gfinity is a London-based esports company founded in 2012. It is known traditionally as a tournament organizer, having run events in games like F1 Esports, "Counter-Strike: Global Offensive", "Starcraft", "FIFA", "Hearthstone", and others. In May 2020, Gfinity launched Gfinity Digital Media, aimed at expanding its business into new spheres.
An excerpt from Gfinity's announcement reads:
Gfinity, a world-leading esports and gaming solutions provider, today announces the acquisition of the trade and assets of SiegeGG Corporation, which operates siege.gg, a leading website for statistics, analysis and news around the Rainbow Six Siege video game. SiegeGG with immediate effect will become part of the fast growing Gfinity Digital Media group. [...] SiegeGG is a leading authority for the Rainbow Six Siege competitive gaming community, with customers of its statistical information including esport tournament operators and Ubisoft itself. The Acquisition gives Gfinity ownership of the underlying methodology and technology used to develop SiegeGG’s leading statistical analysis, which the Company will be able to extend across other game titles. Gfinity will also assume ownership of the siege.gg website, with access to its highly engaged audience, currently delivering one million page views per month, alongside nearly 100,000 Twitter followers. SiegeGG will benefit from Gfinity’s content and search engine optimisation (SEO) strategy and advertising performance optimisation techniques, which will help to drive user growth and advertising spend. Gfinity will also help to expand the breadth of coverage SiegeGG offers, enabling the site to offer more enriching content outside of esports for Rainbow Six fans.
What this means for SiegeGG
Day-to-day operations on SiegeGG will be unaffected, as much of our team will be remaining in place. You'll still be able to follow all the competitive Rainbow Six you're looking for right here.
Several of SiegeGG's now-former owners will be transitioning over as full-time Gfinity employees, and a new employee will be joining the team.
Spencer Glenn will be keeping his role as product owner at SiegeGG, overseeing general operations and working most closely with the statistics team to track and publish data from many R6 esports competitions around the world.
Kev will remain as the lead developer, continuing to improve the site and our technical efforts. This includes the development of the website, CMS, CDN, as well as a number of data processing and analysis tools.
Hunter Cooke will be joining the SiegeGG team as our news lead. He's made a name for himself working at outlets like Dot Esports as the premier journalist in the R6 scene, and we're very happy to be able to bring him onto our team. He has already been leading our reporting operation since the Mexico Major and has already elevated the quality of our coverage.
Shikhar Gupta will become our media lead. In addition to his existing duties covering the APAC region with which he is most familiar, he will be taking over management of our photo and video efforts.
Haydar Ali will be our stats editor, leveraging his encyclopedic knowledge of the Rainbow Six competitive landscape to better inform our news coverage. In addition to this, he will be keeping tabs on many of our partnered leagues around the world.
In addition to this core of full-time staff, we will continue to work with a number of freelancers and contractors and we hope to continue and expand these relationships.
The additional resources that SiegeGG has access to under Gfinity will allow for expansion that would not have been otherwise possible.
