When we think of Siege in 2021, we think of a LATAM dynasty, more precisely located in Brazil. After winning every Siege international event this year, it is time to see who will become champion in its own region.
Throughout the 25th of November and the 6th of December, three regional Finals will take place in LATAM. Here is everything you need to know about them:
Brasileirão
Arguably, Brasileirão is the best upcoming top-flight regional finals. The competition will see four international champions, Team Liquid (Pro League Finals Season 7), Ninjas in Pyjamas (SI 2021), Team oNe (Mexico Major) and FaZe Clan (Sweden Major), who will be joined by MIBR and FURIA Esports.
The best two sides in the BR6 regular phase, FaZe Clan and Team Liquid, have already qualified for the semifinals. Meanwhile, the four remaining teams must play a BO3 match before joining their rivals in the next stage. This is what the schedule looks like:
Although the semifinal matches will also be BO3 games, the Grand Final will be a BO5. Team oNe and MIBR will get this show on the road, with the golden squad being the favorites to make it through. The Mexico Major champions will face a squad that is far from its best form, although the third-best team at the SI 2021 has the potential to knock Team oNe for a loop.
Later on, the Sweden Major finalists, Ninjas in Pyjamas, will play against what was arguably Brazil’s most underwhelming team in Gävle, FURIA Esports. Even though NiP’s form in Brazil throughout October was far from perfect, their performances at the Sweden Major are a huge relief for the team and the fans.
Moreover, both teams have played four matches throughout 2021, with NiP winning three and FURIA just one -- back in March. The average of rounds played per map is 13, so this quarterfinal match could go over with a bang.
Campeonato Mexicano
In Mexico, Atheris Esports are the favorites to win the championship, closely followed by Fenix Esports. They will be joined by Six Karma and MeT.
However, things have changed drastically during the past weeks.
Following Arturo “XigmaZ” Vizcarra’s departure, Fenix Esports are in a bind. No one could believe the news, as Arturo’s Stage 3 numbers were highly impressive, ending as the competition’s best rated player.
That leaves the Brazilian-majority roster Atheris Esports as the main favorites to take it home. The snakes average just one loss per stage, as they have just fallen against Fenix Esports (Stage 1), Chivas e-Sports (Stage 2) and MeT (Stage 3).
Looking at the head to head record against their possible oppositions at the Campeonato Mexicano 2021 Finals, Atheris look to be way ahead of all of their rivals. The team has never lost to Six Karma (3W 0L) and have lost just once to Fenix (2W 1L) and MeT (4W 1L) each.
Just as in Brazil, the semi-finals will be BO3 games, while the Grand Final will be a BO5.
Campeonato Sudamericano
Finally, we have South America. Here, both Malvinas Gaming and 9z Team are the fan favorites to take the trophy home. However, Furious Gaming, who were the best roster in the third stage, could shock the two leaders.
Everyone’s eyes will be on Malvinas Gaming’s 18 year-old wunderkind Richard “blk” Rodríguez following his astonishing displays at the Copa Elite Six Stage 3. The Paraguayan was the highest-rated player of the competition, finishing above the likes of Diogo “Fntzy” Lima or the eventual Sweden Major MVP Jaime “Cyber” Ramos.
Malvinas Gaming are the defending champions following a 3-2 victory over Coscu Army exactly one year ago. Following their great performance at the Copa Elite Six Stage 3, the Argentinians are the favorites to win what would be their second regional championship in Siege.
The semi-finals will kick off on the 25th of November, where Malvinas Gaming will face Newstar, while 9z Team will face Furious Gaming. While the semi-finals will be a BO3 series, the Grand Final will be a BO5.
