Ubisoft has unveiled the Designer's Notes for Y9S4.2 as the upcoming changes to Rainbow Six Siege have been unveiled.
The game's next patch includes multiple changes that will surely alter the meta. Most of these tweaks will modify the position of some operators in the game, including the soft-breachers Sledge, Buck, and Ram, as well as some trap operators, including Kapkan, and Lesion.
Keep on reading to know more about the changes that are coming to Rainbow Six Siege in Y9S4.2!
Sledge
In Operator Solar Raid, Ubisoft changed the speed of some of the game's attackers. Sledge was one of the affected operators as his speed was reduced from two points to just one.
Two years later, Ubisoft is reverting the change and, with Y9S4.2, Sledge will be come a two-speed, two-health operator. With this tweak, Ubisoft hopes to enhance his position in the game's meta as players often pick Buck for soft-breaching tasks.
Buck
Buck's presence in the game is astonishing as he has become the game's best soft-breacher. He can not only quickly switch from his main weapon to his Skeleton Key but he can also bring two hard breaching charges to destroy reinforced hatches and walls.
At least that was the case as Ubisoft has decided to replace his hard breaching charges for Claymores with Y9S4.2. Here's Ubisoft reasoning behind the change:
While Hard Breach Charges are useful for opening a couple of reinforcements, Buck's primary role is soft breaching with his Skeleton Key. This role is almost always needed, and the Hard Breach Charges gave him too much flexibility, making him a one-man-army in many situations. By removing them, we aim to encourage more cooperation among team members.
Additionally, Ubisoft encourages players to bring Claymores to the battlefield while playing Buck as it can allow the operator to "focus on his primary job more safely."
Ram
Sledge and Buck aren't the only soft-breachers being tweaked with Y9S4.2 as Ubisoft has decided to remove Ram's ITA12S Shotgun. As the South Korean operator isn't getting a new secondary weapon to replace the shotgun, players will be forced to use her MK1 9mm Handgun.
Kapkan
Kapkan's C4 will be replaced with Barbed Wire in an attempt to "reduce his killing potential." According to Ubisoft's blog post, "his EDDs are already enough explosives and are quite effective."
Lesion
Ubisoft has decided to nerf Lesion by reducing Lesion's Gu Mine total tally from nine to eight. Additionally, Ubisoft has decided to increase the Gu Mine refill time from 25 to 30 seconds.
Oryx
Ubisoft has decided to buff Oryx's Remah Dash. The changes introduced to Oryx's ability in Y9S4.2 will be:
- Weapon recovery time after dashing: Reduced to 0.2 seconds (from 0.5).
- Weapon recovery time after dashing against a wall: Reduced to 0.3 seconds (from 0.5).
- Weapon recovery time after dashing against an enemy: Reduced to 0.1 seconds (from 0.5).
Here's Ubisoft reasoning behind Oryx's changes:
Previously, the recovery times after using his dash were long enough for attackers to react and potentially eliminate him. By reducing them, Oryx can capitalize on the element of surprise more consistently and make more effective use of his mobility without being too vulnerable. This change enhances his ability to disrupt enemy plans and maintain pressure on attackers, making him more viable and competitive operator.
Weapon changes
Ubisoft has also made some tweaks to various weapons in Rainbow Six Siege. These changes mainly focus on slug shotguns. Here's how Ubisoft is modifying them in Y9S4.2:
Slug Shotguns
Ubisoft has decided to "adjust their damage drop-off again to align more closely with regular Shotguns" as slug shotguns are too close to a DMR. In other words, these changes are introduced to nerf Vigil and Dokkaebi's BOSG.12.2 Shotgun.
Here are the weapons that will be affected by the changes:
- ACS12
- BOSG.12.2
- TCSG12
- .44 Vendetta
Here's how the changes will affect them:
- Damage drop off start: Reduced to 15 meters (from 25).
- Damage drop off end: Reduced to 25 meters (from 35).
- Damage at maximum range: Reduced to 60% (from 70).
- Destruction range: Reduced.
While these changes affect Alibi, Azami, Dokkaebi, Goyo, Kaid, Maestro, Vigil, and Deimos, Ubisoft has explained that the .44 Vendetta's damage configuration won't be tweaked. Instead, Deimos' handgun will only change in terms of destruction range.
TCSG12
Ubisoft has decided to increase the damage of the TCSG12 from 63 to 75 HP due to the Slug Shotgun changes that will be introduced in Y9S4.2.
G36C
Ubisoft has decided to buff Iana and Ash's G36C as they have realized its pick rate is 40% while playing Iana and 2% while playing Ash.
To strengthen the G36C, Ubisoft has decided to reduce its vertical and horizontal recoil.
