Patch 8.11 for Valorant has arrived, bringing a new map called Abyss. This map takes place underground, has a three-lane layout, and features several death drops and spots where vertical gameplay is encouraged.

At the time of writing, the map is only available to play on Unrated, Swift Play, Spike Rush, and Escalation playlists. However, Riot has already revealed when the map will arrive in the Competitive playlist.

When is Abyss arriving in Competitive?

As explained in the patch notes for update 8.11, Abyss will arrive in the Competitive playlist when update 9.0 drops. This is the next patch in the calendar, which means it will come out two weeks after the release of version 8.11.

In other words, Abyss will be added to the Competitive map pool on Tuesday, June 25/Wednesday, June 26 when patch 9.0 arrives, depending on the region you play.

This update will also mark the beginning of Episode 9 Act 1, so expect other additions like a completely new battle pass and new skin bundles for the shop.

Keep in mind that Abyss will be added to the Premier map pool with patch 8.02, which should arrive sometime in July.

What is the current competitive map pool?

As expected, patch 8.11 brought several changes to the map pool in both casual and competitive playlists. These are the maps available in Competitive, Deathmatch, and Premier queues at the moment:

  • Ascent
  • Bind
  • Icebox
  • Lotus
  • Sunset
  • Haven

Unrated, Swift Play, Spike Rush, and Escalation playlists now feature an open map pool, meaning that all maps are available in these queues. For more information about the upcoming first season of Episode 9, check out this article.
