Now that Valorant has been out for more than four years, Riot has announced that the game is getting ported to Unreal Engine 5.

The shooter was developed using Unreal Engine 4 and with the newest version being adopted overall among the different studios, it is safe to say this is a smart move.

Anna Donlon, head of Valorant Studios, made the announcement and explained: "We have squeezed literally every ounce of everything we could get out of UE 4, so now we make the move to UE5, and that is not an easy feat when your game is a live service game but it is necessary."

She also mentioned that this upgrade "is not going to significantly change how Valorant looks or performs, at least not right away." Based on her wording, we can expect the game to receive some visual improvements in the future, although it will remain to be seen in what form.

Interestingly enough, Donlon also teased that the devs might work on new experiences for the title once the upgrade is completed. "maybe those devs are thinking about ways to expand the Val universe into new playable experiences," she said.

The first thing that comes to mind when she says "experiences" is Fortnite and how the game now has other major modes to enjoy within the same game like LEGO Fortnite or Fortnite Festival. Nonetheless, we will have to wait and see what Riot has in store for the future of the shooter.
