CS2 has a healthy set of maps available but if you want to try new areas, you might be wondering how to play workshop maps. Users can create their custom maps and make them available through the workshop of the game on Steam.
This feature has been available since the previous iteration of the game and was also available after the launch of the sequel, meaning that there are a large amount of options to choose from and try.
How to play workshop maps in CS2?
The process to start a game with a workshop map is quite simple since this is a feature of Steam and the game was developed by Valve, the owners of said platform.
First, you'll need to pick a map you want to try from the workshop of the game and to do that, here are the steps you need to follow:
- Open the Steam client on your PC and go to your Library section.
- Select CS2 from the menu on the left side to open the game's page. In there, you'll see a menu with a link to open the workshop under the Play/Install button.
- You can look through the different maps available and pick one (or several) that entices you. Once you know which one you wanna try, the only thing you have to do is subscribe to it. As you can see in the following image, there is a subscribe button inside every map's page on the workshop.
After subscribing, it will begin to download through your Steam client and apply to your game. The only thing remaining is for you to start the game and under the Play section, there is a tab for Workshop Maps.
Inside that tab, you will find all the maps that you've subscribed to and downloaded from the Workshop. After selecting a map, you'll only have to click the Go button and pick a mode if asked to start a server with the custom Workshop map.
How to show the FPS in CS2?
In case you want to monitor the game's performance when you play custom maps, especially because you don't know the complexity of them, here are the simple steps you'll need to follow to activate the FPS counter integrated in the sequel:
- Once you're in the game, press "~" to open the console.
- Then type the following command "cl_showfps 1" and hit enter.
Once you've done it, the FPS counter will appear on the top left side of the screen in red letters (see the image below). If at any point you find this feature annoying or you just simply want to deactivate it, just open the console and type the following command: "cl_showfps 0".
