How to change your name in Valorant

At some point, you might wonder how to change your name in your Valorant account. Whether you want to change the same username you've been using for a while or replace a random game tag you used when creating your new account in a rush, luckily there is a way to do it.

How to change your name in Valorant

The first thing that you need to know is that Valorant uses the same name you have on your Riot account. This is called a Riot ID and there is a simple way to change it if you're feeling like switching things up on your online identity.

Here are the steps you need to follow to change your username:

  • Visit your Riot Account page using this link. It will ask you for your credentials to log in in case you aren't on your current device.
  • From there you can change both your Riot ID and your tag to whatever you like.
  • After that, just hit Save Changes.

There are a few things you need to consider when doing this change and the first one is that you can only your Riot ID for free every 90 days. If you want to do it before that, you'll need to pay a fee of $10.

On top of that, your name should comply with the standard guidelines of Riot, meaning that it cannot be something offensive or inappropriate in any way.

How does a Riot ID work?

A Riot ID is made of two elements, the Game Name and the Tagline. The Game Name is what will appear on any game, so that's the part you'll wanna focus on when changing your username. Keep in mind that the Game Name does not have to be unique, so you can have any name that you want.

On the other hand, the tagline is a 3-5 code made of alphanumeric characters (numbers or letters). By default, you'll get assigned a tagline based on the region you play but you can change it when you're changing your Riot ID to whatever you want. Once you make the change, you cannot set back your tagline to any of the region names (LA1, LA2, NA1, EUW, etc).

The tagline is what allows you to have pretty much any Game Name because it sets you apart from other users with the same Game Name. As long as you don't have the same Game Name and tagline as another account, you'll be good to go.
