Destiny 2 Superblack shader: How to get

Superblack shader is back!

Destiny 2 Superblack shader

Destiny 2 Into the Light is poised to be a celebration of the franchise with a ton of returning content, including the iconic Superblack shader.

On top of having a ton of returning weapons, a brand-new social space called the Hall of Champions, and a free three-player activity called Onslaught, Into the Light will feature other assortments of cosmetics to celebrate almost ten years of Destiny as a franchise, including the Superblack shader.

The Superblack shader is a beloved relic for really hardcore Destiny veterans, as it was first introduced with the very first game all the way back in 2016 during the Festival of the Lost event.

Superblack is back and better than ever so if you want to know how to get your hands on it, we got you covered.

How to get the Superblack shader in Destiny 2

While it's not entirely confirmed, eagle-eyed players noted during the March 26 Into the Light stream that two vendors within the Hall of Champions, Lord Shaxx and Arcite 99-40, hold items called Superblack keys.

Shaxx has the Alpha and Arcite the Omega key. To unlock the Alpha key you'll need to reach Rank 17 with Shaxx, and to unlock the Omega key, you need to complete Arcite weapon quests, which will also grant you specially curated rolls for the weapon you're trying to unlock as well as a dedicated ornament.

It does seem like a real possibility that the Superblack shader is tied to this, but we're willing to bet there's more to these keys than a simple cosmetic, as coveted as it may be.

If you haven't been keeping up with the game and seeing this shader hit you with a wave of nostalgia, you'll be happy to hear that the shader system has been significantly improved from previous years.

Players have the ability to apply the shader to individual armor pieces, contrary to what you could do in the original Destiny. On top of that, unlike the early years of Destiny 2 where shaders were treated as a consumable, once you unlock one, it's yours to keep forever, with the ability to apply it to everything, including armor, weapons, sparrows, and ships.

Once we have full confirmation about how to get the Superblack shader in Destiny 2, we'll be updating the article accordingly. Remember that Into the Light drops on April 9, if you want to know more, check out everything that's coming with the 7.3.6 update.
