Four months after G2 Esports' victory at the Six Invitational 2023 the team is making a roster change as Luigi "Gemini" Ferrigno has joined to replace Byron "Blurr" Murray.
G2 Esports are making changes following the team's second place finish at the Europe League Stage 1, which was followed by a Top 8 finish at the BLAST R6 Major Copenhagen.
Gemini's debut came at the ESL Italia Championship Winter 2018. Later on, he made himself a space in Italy's league, and eventually was signed by the country's best team, Mkers.
In Dec. 2020, Mkers' Cinderella run saw the Challenger League roster qualifying for the Six Invitational 2021 following victories against Rogue and Chaos in the Closed Qualifier, and Natus Vincere and Tempra Esports in the Qualifier Finals.
Despite Mkers' reputation, the Italian roster pulled off some great performances as they beat TSM, Spacestation Gaming, and Parabellum Esports. In the playoffs, Mkers beat Cloud9 just before being sent home by TSM. Gemini was Mkers' second-best rated player with a SiegeGG rating of 1.00.
Since then, Gemini and Mkers have been playing in Italy's top leagues and Europe's Challenger League. In 2022, the Italian roster won the PG Nationals and the Italian Cup. Ten days later, the Italian squad lost against the eventual Challenger League champions of Dunlimited by 1-2 as they finished in third place only behind TENSTAR and the Russian roster.
Gemini's professional debut for G2 Esports will come next month, as the roster will compete at Saudi Arabia's Gamers8.
Here's G2 Esports' roster heading to the second half of the 2023 season:
