Multiplayer represents a significant part of every Call of Duty installation, but can Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 deliver what we all desire?

CoD: BO6 arrives with many improvements, proven mechanics, and brand-new features. The multiplayer mode also did not avoid some changes - but are they really for the better? And how does it actually compare to the alternatives from its predecessors? This complete breakdown of all its components knows the answer to these questions!

Multiplayer mode in Call of Duty Black Ops 6

Zombie mode returns to its glory

Zombies mode abandons unsuccessful solutions of Modern Warfare 3 and the open maps of Warzone to return to the formula players love the most. We get two round-based maps — Terminus and Liberty Falls — overrun by waves of increasingly powerful undead.

The gameplay's pace is excitingly fast, the fight for the mystery box makes it extremely fun, and the ability to use any weapon (instead of just a gun) spices up the atmosphere. There are kiosks, traps, power-ups, crafting tables, atmospheric locations, and a bit of a story for better immersion. All this makes leveling weapons and characters for proper multiplayer fast and highly enjoyable. It's great to witness the creators decided to spend a lot of time from four years of development to serve the zombie mode we all needed.

Multiplayer merges tradition with changes for the better

Revolutionary omnimovement

Black Ops 6 upgrades the classic multiplayer experience with a brand-new omnimovement system. That's the first time in series history players can finally slide, sprint, or turn around while lying down. It's a surprisingly balanced mechanic since new and experienced players must grasp its basics to enjoy it on the battlefield. Confrontations are now definitely faster and more spectacular. Plus, they bring lots of fun to the classic multiplayer experience.

New maps

On release day, the game introduced sixteen maps, with plans to add more in the future. They are noticeably smaller and equipped with action-packed layouts and the classic three-lane routes. Despite the brand-new look, many feel familiar, which doesn't resonate well with many players. These changes are not revolutionary but allow for a decent gameplay experience.

Weapon Development System

The weapon development system hasn't really changed. Players still level up all weapons separately, and their development requires frequent usage. What has changed are the perks. Equipping three unlocks access to the fourth, which guarantees a significant advantage on the battlefield. Therefore, many players play in such a way as to activate this fourth perk as soon as possible and create a truly deadly combination of new combat possibilities.

Accessibility features

Black Ops 6 enhances the classic multiplayer experience by including new accessibility settings and improving on those from previous installments. As a first in the series, it introduces asymmetrical hearing compensation for creating a custom audio profile and sound settings for each ear. There's also a high contrast mode, intelligent movement, HUD presets, an arachnophobia toggle feature, and a pause and save option in Zombies mode. All these make multiplayer fun and accessible to even more players looking to try out the new Call of Duty game.

Game Pass

On the day of its release, Black Ops 6 hit Xbox Game Pass, which means it's available to both console and Windows PC users. It's the first installment in the series available as part of this subscription.

Season 1

In addition to the content we received on the day of the game's release, the creators also announced Season 1, introducing many new features.

According to Treyarch, Season 1 starts on November 14, 2024, to expand Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 with a new gameplay mode, battle pass, challenges, and events. There are also new maps and surprises. It's a piece of especially vital information for fans of the multiplayer mode who want more content within their favorite game.

Conclusion

So, is Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 multiplayer even worth it? Definitely yes! Compared to its predecessors, the game follows proven solutions enhanced with some modifications. Omnimovement makes every confrontation really fun, the weapon development system feels intuitive, and all sixteen maps fulfill players' expectations. It's not the best game in the history of the series, but it's definitely the most fun in many years. And since Season 1 adds many new extras, long-time fans, and beginners can count on almost endless multiplayer content.
