One day before the release of the H2 Multiplayer Mod, the development team behind it received a cease-and-desist order “on behalf of Activision Publishing”, forcing them to shut down all operations immediately.
The news has been welcomed with disappointment from the whole Call of Duty community. The launch of H2 Multiplayer Mod would have given fans who own Modern Warfare Remastered (2017) a chance to play remastered versions of Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer maps, game modes, weapons, and more.
This was great for the game’s publisher and developers too, as to enjoy this mod, players had to purchase Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered on Steam first.
Activision’s recent posture has surprised many fans, as the news regarding the release of the popular mod had increased the sales of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered. The game, which was released in 2016, became so popular on Steam that it's now the second-most purchased title this week only behind Counter-Strike 2.
As the nostalgia had already kicked in, players’ excitement changed to anger. Players have already started requesting a refund on Steam for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, which is possible for those who played the title less than two hours according to CharlieIntel on X (formerly Twitter).
Meanwhile, the American esports organization FaZe Clan is “begging” Activision to “reconsider” the decision. “This is harmless fun and community building. Something we feel Call of Duty desperately needs.”
