“We are focused game by game”: Guille speaks after defeating two SI champions on the same day

NiP and SSG are out of the SI 2022 race, which means we will see a new team lifting the hammer.

MIBR’s day has been a wild one as the squad has beaten not one, but two former Six Invitational champions.

But that doesn’t amuse the team. Guilherme “Guille” Scalfi, the squad’s manager and analyst, went for the widely known Cholo Simeone mentality, stating that “we are focused game by game ... We are not rushing, we are not anxious, we knew that today would be a hard day because NiP is very strong and SSG is very methodical. It was a nice game, Bank… oh my god. It was a great match.”

An overwhelming victory over Ninjas in Pyjamas at 10 am CET has been followed by a victory over Spacestation Gaming. The North American side was the favorite to take the win, which seemed very likely after their fairly one-sided 7-2 victory on Villa.

That was about to change. MIBR impressed everyone with the quality of their Chalet defenses, as the team converted four of their six. “We always tried (Chalet) defenses that focused on taking an area, dominating it, retaking, rotating… these are the Chalet dynamics, you cannot let the attack do what they want. We wanted to be more aggressive on defense, get some rounds, and finish it on the attacking side,” admitted Guille.

Such a mentality gave the team a two-round lead when swapping roles. Three rounds later, MIBR closed the second map by taking their three attacks. No mistakes, deadly rounds. Luca “Lukid” Sereno’s Iana was very important at executing the attacks, as he even got four kills on round seven.

Following two very one-sided maps, Bank was just the opposite. Fifteen rounds were needed to crown a winner after MIBR forced the overtime. The Brazilians would start round 13 from the attacking side, so it was about executing their takes. Luckily for them, that’s exactly what happened.

“Reduct, our captain, he was very calm. He took the defenses that Spacestation would do against us. Our entire team was very calm, the communication was smooth, it was in a good volume, we were calm. It was crazy, our team stayed calm,” Guille concluded.

It has been a complicated year for MIBR. After Felipe “FelipoX” de Lucia shoulder injury, the team has never been the same. Due to the roster’s momentum since then, and with them being forced to play the LATAM SI 2022 Closed Qualifiers to be able to compete in Sweden, people forgets where this team comes from.

We are talking of the third-best team at last year’s Six Invitational. It’s been a difficult and tumultuous year, but they finally seem to be back.
