Korey: "We've Worked Hard, But Inefficient"

We spoke to korey from Mock-it Esports, the breakout star of the second-half of Season 8, to ask how he and his team are approaching the Six Invitational 2019.

As the only full-German team in the Pro League, Mock-it Esports has had a long road to the Six Invitational 2019. This is, of course, stretching back far beyond Season 8 -- in fact, it goes all the way back to when Vale and ripz had been on the team known as myRevenge. Soon after the team was signed by Mysterious Monkeys, played in the relegations, survived, and became 1UP eSport.

KS then joined the team, but soon they left the organisation for better pastures. Unfortunately at the time -- but fortunately for Mock-it Esports in hindsight -- a disagreement between Paraa and Hungry, and the others saw the two of them leave which opened the door for BakaBryan and korey to enter. BakaBryan, for his part, has now been benched but the two of them were part of the rising wave that lifted Mock-it Esports to an appearance at the Season 8 Finals after finishing second in Europe, and now to the Six Invitational.

Currently, though, the team goes into the biggest Rainbow Six: Siege event yet with more than a small problem -- they sit in seventh place, and if they finish the season there they will have to play relegations against the second-placed Challenger League team. We spoke to the Lukas “korey” Zwingmann to ask about their expectations and preparations for the next big LAN event, the Six Invitational 2019:

After a strong half season with him, what led to the decision to bench BakaBryan?

The team wasn't on the same page when it came to goals and motivation, and we have decided to refresh the roster and work with Cry1NNN in order to achieve even more.

How was Cry1NNN chosen as his replacement over other, more experienced players?

He is one of the most experienced German players and as we are a roster of 4 native germans we decided against a single English person. Communication is key, and it is easier and better to communicate in your native language.

Were you pleased with your Season 8 performance and what do you think you could’ve done better to have won the Pro League title?

We are very happy with what we have achieved in such a short amount of time, finishing in the top eight worldwide whilst having a fairly new roster is amazing. I’m sad that we gave the game away against FaZe because the team is sure that we could’ve made the top two.

The Season 9 EU Pro League standings so far

At the halfway point in Season 9, Mock-it sits in 7th place in Europe -- quite a drop from your second place finish in Season 8. What has caused this drop?

We've started a lot from scratch and needed time to get back to our old level; we've worked hard, but inefficient. After doing that for two weeks we decided to take a different approach when it comes to training and since then we have only improved.

How are you preparing for the Six Invitational 2019?

Mock-it has sent us to a boot camp, we are scrimming, analyzing, and working on our flaws. We are scrimming international teams to get used to different play styles as I am sure that the EU playstyle is one of the most basic ones, so adapting to the enemy is something that has to happen perfectly on the fly. That's why scrimming international teams helps us a lot.

Mock-it Esports will be in Group C for the Six Invitational 2019

You play Team Liquid in your opening match before a game against either G2 or mantisFPS; what results can we expect in these games?

It’s hard to tell. From our knowledge, both teams have a very frag heavy lineup or, better said, aggressive lineup, which we will try to counter as well as possible. Lately, we've struggled less and less against those sort of play styles but I don't want to predict any outcomes.

What one gameplay change would you like to be implemented into R6?

A gameplay change the entire team and especially the community would love is to make Rainbow Six Siege more competitive again. As I've already said, we are a German-speaking team and we want the best German players, but finding them is very hard because of the massive difference between ranked and competitive play. If Ubisoft makes that more alike players will not only improve but will be found easier.

What are your goals for 2019?

We want to not only qualify for another PL event, but also take home a win.

Any messages to your fans?

We are thankful for any support we received and hope we can put on a good show!
