After the Beavis and Butt-Head skins were introduced to Black Ops 6, many users in the community started complaining about the cosmetics in the current Call of Duty, stating that they don't feel authentic to the franchise.
Complaints grew when the American Dad collaboration arrived, and it became a major criticism for the franchise. Many were upset to find out that all these cosmetics will be included in Black Ops 7 thanks to the Carry Forward feature. This feature was meant to bring all Black Ops 6 cosmetics into the new game, similar to what happened with Modern Warfare 2 (2022) cosmetics in Modern Warfare 3 (2023).

Nonetheless, Activision posted a new article on the Call of Duty blog to announce that they have reverted their decision on Carry Forward and Black Ops 6 cosmetics won't be added to Black Ops 7. To be more specific, every operator, operator skin, and weapon skin from last year's game won't be in the new title.
The only things that will carry forward now are GobbleGums and all double XP tokens, with Activision saying that they "recognize your time and progression."
Apart from this decision, Activision reassured fans that feedback is being listened and they are working to make the cosmetics fit this. "In Black Ops 7, bundles and items will be crafted to fit the Black Ops identity. We hear the feedback. We need to deliver a better balance toward the immersive, core Call of Duty experience."
The popularity of Battlefield 6 has certainly put some pressure on the company to make adjustments in their current strategy, as EA has also jumped into the criticism and stated that their game will keep its feel and setting intact.
