The new title will follow a similar strategy to the Call of Duty franchise

After Battlefield 2042 had a disappointing launch, there was a major restructuring inside DICE and the people in charge of the series at EA.

With Vince Zampella, the CEO of Respawn Entertainment and founder of Infinity Ward, leading the way, there are multiple projects in the works as the studio plans to expand the franchise and set up a new Battlefield universe.

Although nothing specific has been revealed as of yet, a new report from Insider-Gaming states that the next main entry has a tentative release date of October 2025. The title will go back to the roots of the franchise by having 64-player matches, a four-class system, and revamped destruction mechanics.

The game will reportedly be set in modern times between 2025 and 2030, so we can expect modern weapons, equipment, and vehicles.

On top of that, the report also reveals that Ripple Effect, the studio that was previously announced to be working on a different Battlefield experience, is developing a Battle Royale game that is set to be free-to-play.

The game will apparently follow a similar strategy to what we see with Call of Duty: Warzone, being a separate experience that gets updated alongside the premium title. It currently has two game modes, the classic Battle Royale and a new one called Gauntlet.

In this mode, teams will be put through several objective-based missions and the one with the least amount of points will be eliminated until there is only one remaining.

This is not the first time the franchise has given the Battle Royale formula a try, with Battlefield V featuring Firestorm and Battlefield 2042 having a mode called Hazard Zone. It is worth noting that neither of those modes had the impact that Warzone or any other popular Battle Royale title, like Apex Legends or Fortnite, has.
