GOSU Acquires Scrypt E-Sports Roster in SEA

Comparatively new South Korean organisation GOSU has acquired the roster of Southeast Asian side Scrypt E-Sports.

The pick-up means that GOSU is the fourth-ever organisation to enter the Southeast Asian (SEA) region after Team CryptiK (exited), Xavier Esports, and Aerowolf. It is an encouraging sign for the region, and could see the domestic competitiveness and viewership rise.

Scrypt E-Sports finished 2nd in SEA in Season 7 of the Pro League, and thus qualified to the corresponding APAC LAN Finals. While they were knocked out in the Quarter-Finals by NORA-Rengo, they gave their Japanese counterparts a good challenge. Since then, they replaced Array and Kicked with berphyyy and Quervo, though only finished 3rd-4th this season. Briefly, the roster had also been signed by Aerowolf, who would go on to drop them midway through Season 8.

In what might be a surprise for many, especially in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, the signing sees the return of Richard “shinbagel” Shin as the team’s General Manager into competitive Rainbow Six: Siege circles. Previously, he had spent time as a player with the SEA Aerowolf roster (then Team CryptiK) in Season 6, and the Australasian ViewSonic DarkSided roster (then Corvidae) during the 2018 Six Invitational ANZ Qualifiers.

Speaking to him about his organisation and pick-up of the, shinbagel was upbeat about his organisation’s investment.

We are an Asian organization currently competing in CS:GO, with the team being based in South Korea. Acquiring the SEA team Scrypt was decidedly a step in the right direction for the org as we look to expand our footprint in the Asian region. After speaking with a few teams, we decided to pull the trigger with Scrypt as both our passion for Rainbow Six and commitment to improve were aligned. We are currently working two big projects in tandem with sponsors and players with a few more in the pipeline. Unfortunately, that is all I can disclose at the moment.

The organisation is fairly new, having been around for approximately a year with CS:GO, but seemingly has big plans. Already, they have over 16000 followers on their Facebook page, although their Twitter presence is far more muted at just under 300 followers.

While there have been no roster changes announced so far, it will hardly be unsurprising to see a few changes in the near future. As of now, though, the roster will be identical to what has been seen so far in the recently concluded eighth season of the Pro League.

The current GOSU roster is thus:

Ilham “Sunan” Surya

Dyaz “Evou” Caesar

Achmad “Quervo” Tizany

Mochamad “Kenody” Jordy

Benny “Berphy” Rachmadi
