The First Descendant, the newest co-op third-person looter shooter that's set to compete against the likes of Destiny 2, could potentially be stealing assets from Bungie's FPS.
A report by Paul Tassi from Forbes brought to light the fact that multiple First Descendant UI icons were strikingly similar to Destiny 2, with almost a dozen examples being exposed via social media.
The resemblance is striking in a lot of these designs, as many users have pointed out. Some of the more egregious examples include one of Bunny's abilities, a character in The First Descendant, having the same logo as the Implosion Rounds perk.
The Edging Shot module icon also bears an almost one-to-one resemblance to the Destiny 2 Explosive Payload perk logo.
Some users on social media, including the BungieLeaks Twitter account, shared information about a website called IconDuck that allegedly hosted many free-to-use icons, implying that Bungie and Nexon could have used these images as templates for Destiny 2 and The First Descendant, respectively.
However, that was quickly fact-checked and proven to be incorrect, as Tom Chapman, creator of Destiny 2 third-party sites such as WhereIsXur and Bray.Tech, was credited as the source for these logos.
Chapman took to Twitter to clear up any confusion, explaining that he ripped icons to use on his websites from files created by Bungie and that he did not upload those images to IconDuck.
Icons and UI coincidences are not the only things players spotted that looked familiar in The First Descendant. There's a weapon in the game called Different Dream that looks straight from Destiny 2's IKELOS series of guns.
The Different Dream gun looks right at home with the IKELOS Destiny 2 weapons
Specifically, the weapon seems to be an amalgamation of the IKELOS sniper and the Sleeper Stimulant exotic linear fusion rifle.
Are The First Descendant devs taking inspiration or ripping off Bungie's designs?
Whether it's inspiration or ripping off assets and designs remains to be seen. At the moment, neither Bungie nor Nexon have made any comments on the matter.
