Gen.G Esports have kicked off their run at the Valorant Champions Seoul with a rock-solid victory against Sentinels. The VCT Masters Shanghai champions redeemed themselves for their grand final loss against Sentinels earlier this year at the VCT Masters Madrid following two one-sided wins today on Haven (13-8) and Ascent (13-7).
Sentinels began the series with a 2-4 lead on Haven which was quickly reverted by the South Korean team. Kim "t3xture" Na-ra's 1v2 post-plant clutch on round eleven saw the golden squad taking the lead for the first time in the match, a play that was followed by three successful back-to-back rounds that gave Gen.G Esports a four-round lead. Eventually, the South Korean team clinched the first map of the series as the Americans could only add three more rounds to their scoreboard on Haven.
On Ascent, it was the South Korean squad that had the better start to the map as the golden roster won the first four rounds of the game. Kim "Karon" Won-tae temporarily stole the show with an outstanding 4K while using the Sheriff in the second round.
Despite Sentinels' positive start to their attacking half, which saw the Americans being only two rounds away from equalizing Gen.G Esports' rounds tally, the South Koreans faded Sentinels' hopes away and clinched the victory on Ascent after winning five of their remaining six defenses.
Following this result, Gen.G Esports moves to Group B's Upper Bracket Final as the South Koreans will play against the winner of the series between Team Heretics and FunPlus Phoenix. Meanwhile, Sentinels will play against the defeated side.
