Fortnite's Chapter 6 was released to the game on December 1 and, since then, a lot of brand-new content has hit the Epic Games shooter. On December 6, the long-awaited Fortnite OG was launched as nostalgia-driven players hopped on the server to try out the game mode.
However, Fortnite has just announced the game's next big thing. In the upcoming days, Fortnite will release Ballistic, a 5v5 first-person shooter game mode. Keep on reading to know more about Fortnite's Ballistic!
Release date
Fortnite Ballistic will be released on December 11. This will be the first-ever first-person shooter released to Fortnite.
We expect Fortnite Ballistic to do quite well. However, keep in mind that this will be Fortnite Ballistic's early access: some bugs could appear and only one map will be added.
How does it work?
Fortnite Ballistic is a 5v5 FPS game mode. The ten players in the lobby are divided into two teams of five players.
While one team attacks, the other team defends. The attackers' goal is to plant the Rift Point Device at one of the two sites on the map, while the defenders' objective is to stop the attackers from planting the Rift Point Device. If that happens, the defenders can still win the round by defusing the Rift Point Device, as they will have 45 seconds to defuse the gadget.
Both teams will switch sides after the first six rounds of the game, the first team to win seven rounds wins.
Similarly to Valorant, Fortnite Ballistic will have its own economy system. At the start of the match, all players will have 800 Credits. Players will be able to get more Credits by eliminating opponents and planting the Rift Point Device.
Keep in mind that Fortnite Ballistic doesn't have infinite respawns. If you're killed, you will have to wait until the conclusion of the round to reappear. Therefore, surviving is crucial as you will be able to keep your weapon and gadgets, which will allow you to save Credits for future rounds.
Weapons
For more information, make sure to check out our Fortnite Ballistic Weapon guide here.
Fortnite Ballistic will include five types of weapons, including:
- Assault Rifles
- Shotguns
- Submachines
- Snipers
- Handguns
We expect the Assault Rifles to be the most popular weapons in Fortnite Ballistic. However, it's worth keeping an eye on the Shotguns, which could be great for defending the site.
Flex Gadgets
Fortnite Ballistic will include two default gadgets in smoke grenades and stun grenades. However, there's a different category of gadgets called Flex Gadgets.
At the start of the match, players will have to choose their flex gadget. As of now, five flex gadgets have been confirmed, including:
- Proximity Mine: Damaging mine that can be placed on any floor or wall.
- Bubble Shield: Temporary protective bubble that's impervous to bullets and projectiles.
- Recon Grenade: Grenade that will detect any enemies nearby, including those who are behind a wall.
- Frag Grenade: Explosive grenade that can bounce off any surface. Although it won't deliver damage to teammates it could damage you.
- Impulse Grenade: Gadget that can launch enemies and allies away.
Map
Fortnite Ballistic will only include one map, called Skyline 10. We expect more maps to be added in the future.
While no trailers have been unveiled regarding Fortnite's Skyline 10, the outline of the map makes us think this will be quite big. Therefore, we expect the playstyle to be slow.
Playlists
Fortnite Ballistic will include two playlists, Ranked and Unranked.
Ranked will be Fortnite Ballistic's most competitive experience. Players will get penalties for leaving ongoing matches. If you get disconnected, you will have three minutes to reconnect before the penalty activates.
Meanwhile, Unranked will offer a casual experience for those who want to try out Fortnite Ballistic. It's a great place to practice and get better. No penalties will be given to those who leave a match as another player will be added automatically.
