Despite massive changes coming to Destiny with The Final Shape, including a new patrol area, the Pale Heart, new exotics to chase, and a brand-new subclass, Prismatic, some things never change: Xur loves Strange Coins.
Just like every other Friday, Xur made his way to Destiny 2 for the first time after the release of The Final Shape, with many players wondering how to acquire Strange Coin, the mysterious currency loved by the elusive vendor.
Strange Coins are required to purchase gear, engrams, and progress through the ranks of Xur, which will give you extra rewards simply for spending your hard-earned currency with him due to this new system.
Where to farm Strange Coins in Destiny 2
Previously, Strange Coins were only usable in the Dares of Eternity activity. Even before that, however, this currency was used to buy gear from Xur, so they are essentially going back to their roots.
Getting them is pretty easy.
Play Ritual activities
That's right, simply playing the game will give you a chance of acquiring Strange Coins. Ritual activities encompass the general meat and bones of Destiny 2: Vanguard playlist (Nightfall, Vanguard Opts, Onslaught), Gambit, and Crucible are your go-tos. The drops are random so you'll need a bit of luck.
We're still unsure if Strange Coins drop from other sources, but as soon as we investigate and find more about them we'll update this article.
Earn a Favor of the Nine
The Favor of the Nine is a buff offered by Xur for spending Strange Coins with him. It reads:
- When you earn a Strange Coin, there is a chance of receiving a bonus Strange Coin. This stacks multiple times
To get your first favor, you need to spend 47 Strange Coins, so they are not cheap, but can definitely speed up the grinding process. You can only get this one time per weekend and it lasts 10 days, but the effect can stack.
