Now that we are a few days away from Apex Legends Season 22, Respawn has released the first trailer showcasing one of the biggest additions coming this time.

From a completely new map to new game modes and quality-of-life updates. Here is everything announced about the upcoming season titled Shockwave.

Release date

Thanks to the in-game countdown of the battle pass, we know that Season 22 of Apex Legends is set to begin on Tuesday, August 6, 2024. A new update will come out that day to add all the new content.

The update should be available around 10:00 am PT (6:00 pm BST) and PC players will be able to preload it on Steam before its release.

Trailer

Here is the gameplay trailer for this season, which takes place on the new map and showcases several of its POIs:

New map: E-District

The biggest addition for this season will be a new map called E-District, which was first teased in part 4 of the Kill Code animated shorts at the end of 2023.

Well-known Apex leaker, Osvaldatore, leaked several images of it a few months ago on X (formerly Twitter), giving us an unofficial look at this new location.

The map takes place within the limits of a circular city that features several zones with vibrant lights and colors. You can visit this article to read more details about this upcoming map.

New modes

The season brings two major game modes into the fold with Bot Royale and Trios Revival.

Bot Royale is a mode where you can play with a team of bots or human players against other bots. From what we can tell, this is meant to be a practice mode, friendly for new players or players who haven't touched the game in a while.

On the other hand, Trios Revival is heavily inspired by the Resurgence game mode from Call of Duty: Warzone. In this mode, players will be able to respawn if they have at least one teammate alive after a timer runs out.

The respawn timer will be longer after each death and round, and respawning will be enabled until the fourth circle. Squadmates can speed up the timer by doing damage, downing enemies, or even eliminating them.

Akimbo

The game will finally introduce the possibility of akimbo weapons. This will only be possible with the P2020 and Mozambique pistols.

During a match, the player will automatically enter Akimbo mode after picking up a second weapon of the same kind. Both guns will have automatic fire and an increased fire rate.

Two hands, each one holding a P2020 from Apex Legends with a reactive camo.

While on Akimbo, optics are disabled since players will have to shoot both weapons from the hip. Attachments are mirrored between the two guns and magazine sizes are doubled.

Other details

Leaker Hypermystx listed the names of several skins coming this season, which all follow the "Mania" theme. The list includes legendary skins for the following heroes: Wattson, Ballistic, Bangalore, Gibraltar, Mad Maggie, Newcastle, Octane, Valkyrie, and Wraith.

On top of that, these heroes will get epic Mania skins: Wattson, Maggie, Conduit, and Alter. We still don't know if these will be available through the shop, part of an event, or even part of the season's battle pass.

We will update this article to add any new leaks or official details as we wait for the start of the new season.
