LaXInG Leaves Cloud9 After Being Benched

Earlier today, Cloud9 announced that Gabriel "LaXInG" Mirelez has been benched -- a decision that “caught [him] off guard”.

LaXInG has been a part of competitive Rainbow Six since the beginning. Starting out on Xbox playing under the organization eXcellence Gaming, his team went on to win the Season 1 Finals on the Xbox. At the first Six Invitational, now under the organization Elevate, he went on to win the only Six Invitational ever played on the console.

After the Xbox Pro League was shut down, he switched to PC, where he continued playing with the same Elevate roster until the 2018 Six Invitational, when the squad was signed by Counter Logic Gaming a few days prior to the tournament. At the end of Season 7, Counter Logic Gaming’s roster was relegated, and the team disbanded. LaXInG was then picked up by his current roster, then playing for beastcoast and now under Cloud9 (C9). LaXInG’s achievements with Cloud9 include winning DreamHack Montreal 2018 as well as appearances at DreamHack Valencia, OGA PIT Season 1, and the Rainbow Six US Nationals.

This move came as a surprise for LaXInG especially, as a few days before the announcement, LaXInG was preparing to move into the team house in California, where the rest of the Cloud9 players currently live. This move is a bit of a head-scratcher, as the Cloud9 roster had improved as a whole throughout Season 8, led by LaXInG as one of the top performers on the team.

Going forward, LaXInG will be a trialing for other squads and is "a free agent" for the upcoming Pro League season. Neither Cloud9 nor any of the team’s remaining four players or two coaches have stated anything about his replacement for the upcoming Pro League season.

The Cloud9 roster is thus:

Lauren "Goddess" WIlliams

Alexander "Retro" Lloyd

Mark "Mark" Arismendez

Davide "FoxA" Bucci

Thomas "Robn" Linden (Coach)

Anthony "ViiRuS" Ybarra (Coach)
