A new update titled Escalation of Freedom is coming for Helldivers 2 players. This will be the first major expansion since the game's release, adding significantly more elements than a traditional patch.

Now that the trailer is out, here is everything that was announced so you know what's coming.

Release date

Helldivers 2 Escalation of Freedom is set to come out on Tuesday, August 6 on both the PlayStation and Steam versions.

Trailer

Here is the official trailer that was released to announce this update:

New difficulty and missions

The update introduces a new difficulty level called Combat Rating 10: Super Helldive. This will be the most challenging dive level as players will have to face bigger waves of enemies.

The game will also receive new mission variations, expanding the pool of mission objectives, and new elements like bigger enemy outputs for both Automatons and Terminid bugs

These outposts will be heavily fortified and offer a Super Sample reward for players who manage to take them down.

It is worth noting that many of these new mission objectives and fortified outposts can also spawn on other difficulty levels, meaning that you won't have to jump into Super Helldive to play them.

New enemies

The update brings new bot and bug enemies to fill out the new difficulty level and bring more variety to the already existing levels Here is the complete list of additions:

  • Terminid bugs:
    • The Impaler
    • Spore Charger
    • Terminid Alpha Commander
  • Automatons:
    • Rocket Tank

More new Automaton enemies are being added but they weren't disclosed by the official blog post, so we will have to wait until the patch releases to get to know them.

Other details

Here are other minor details revealed about the new expansion:

  • To prevent grief kicking, a new system will be implemented where the player getting kicked will get to host a new session with all the team's loot from the previous session. On the other hand, the squad remaining in the session will get to keep the loot even after losing a player, meaning no part will be affected.
  • Major fixes to the social menu will be implemented.
