Over the weekend, Epic Games disabled the dance emote Peaceful Hips that was recently added to Fortnite with the Peacemaker collab. This means that every person who purchased this cosmetic can no longer equip or use it in-game.
Epic has already promised refunds, but many are wondering why this emote was suddenly removed. We have all the information and context you need to know to understand the situation a little bit better.
This article has spoilers for Season 2 of Peacemaker, so if you are not caught up on the show, we recommend you check out some of our other content on the site.
Why was the Peacemaker Peaceful Hips emote removed from Fortnite?
The Peaceful Hips dance emote was removed from Fortnite last Saturday night/Sunday morning, depending on your region. This cosmetic makes a character recreate Peacemaker's moves from the Season 2 intro of his show, while a portion of the song Oh Lord by Foxy Shazam plays.
For those who don't know which emote we are talking about, you can see the now-removed cosmetic in the following video:
After its removal, the official Fortnite Status account on X posted the following statement to explain this decision: "We're disabling the Peaceful Hips Emote in Fortnite as we inquire into our partner's creative intentions in this collab emote. Assuming it's not coming back, we'll issue refunds in the next few days. Sorry folks."
As per the message, Epic is unclear on the intentions of their partners, which in this case should be Warner Bros. and DC Studios. This doubt comes after the latest episode of Peacemaker Season 2 revealed a shocking twist, confirming a theory many fans have been speculating online.
Without diving too much into the plot (because I haven't started Season 2 myself), after travelling to another dimension and finding his "ideal universe", Peacemaker found out that he is now in a universe where the Axis powers won the Second World War, changing major events in history as we know it.
This led to the United States adopting a racist culture, and that is why one of the characters in the show gets swarmed by civilians living in a suburban area.
Because of that, the people at Epic Games believe the dance from the Season 2 intro recreates or resembles a swastika symbol, which is present in the American flag of this universe, as seen in the last episode.
Whether that is the case or not, no comment has been made from DC Studios, James Gunn, or Warner Bros. at the time of writing. If nothing changes, we can expect all users who purchased this emote to receive a refund equivalent to the cost of this single cosmetic.
