Spoit and Deapek dominates, G2 disappoints
The match of the day in Europe was the clash between G2 Esports’s “super-team” up against a William “Spoit” Löfstedt-featuring Rogue.
Plain and simple, G2’s performance wasn’t up to even EUL standards, especially the ones set by G2’s own legacy in the game. It was sloppy, with very questionable decisions. Moreover, the team looked shockingly incapable of winning gunfights.
Jack “Doki” Robertson could only get two kills and his double team kill on round four seemingly defined what was not just his but his team’s performance.
Meanwhile, Rogue knew exactly how to exploit G2’s mistakes. Spoit led Rogue with three entries and 10 kills in eight rounds. Tom “Deapek” Pieksma was pivotal for Rogue too, as he clutched two rounds.
G2 must improve in order to qualify for the Berlin Major. Despite being just 400 metres away from the tournament venue, if the team can’t stop this momentum, they could be the first in the region to be out of the race.
Heroic looking like it’s Stage 1 again
Heroic kept on going in Europe after another convincing victory; this time against Team BDS. It was a difficult start for the Stage 1 winners as the Frenchmen on BDS headed into the second half of the match with the lead. However, once on defense, the story completely changed.
Aleksi “UUNO” Työppönen had a very good game with Pulse, giving constant information to his teammates. Despite being the opening death in two rounds, his contributions were the differential on defense. Meanwhile, Georgi “GorgoNa” Stoyanov was the man of the match with 15 kills and a clutch.
Meanwhile, Stephene “Shaiiko” Lebleu went rather quiet despite being the statistically best player on BDS. An ace on Heroic’s first match point gave his team some hope, but GorgoNa’s clutch in the final round gave Heroic the three points.
Risze rises from 0-12 scoreline
From a 0-12 record and a SiegeGG rating of 0.12, Valentin “risze” Liradelfo found redemption against MNM Gaming by leading the Wolves to a victory against MNM.
It was an awful performance by the UKIN roster, who couldn’t win a single attack on Villa. Despite winning their first two defenses, the team couldn’t stop Wolves for a third time.
Wolves Esports have started the stage onthe right foot, as they are alongside Heroic as the only teams who have six points in the standings.
Russian teams with the upset UKIN wins
Few would have expected much from Outsiders and PWNZ, especially from the latter. However, both teams showed up this week with victories over UKIN sides Natus Vincere and Team Secret.
Both victories were by substantial margins, with Pavel “Amision” Chebatkov rising as the player of PWNZ game with a 2.07 SiegeGG Rating against Natus Vincere – a rating that makes him climb to the top of the European League individual statistics.
Meanwhile, Pavel “p4sh4” Kosenko led Outsiders to a very comfortable victory over Team Secret, which helpedthe team skyrocket to the top four of the competition.
It remains to be seen if these wins are a flash in the pan, but they could provide a strong basis for Outsiders -- and PWNZ, in particular -- to make an outside push for the Berlin Major spots.
