UPDATE: According to official communications from Ubisoft, w7m and Team oNe will share FURIA's fate. As a result, the headline of this article has been updated.
Three-fourths of the qualified teams from LATAM will be unable to attend in person, and will be forced to play online from the Ubisoft facilities in Mexico.
FURIA CEO Jaime Padua and Rainbow Six coach Marlon “Twister” Mello announced on May 7 the inability of the team to attend the Six Charlotte Major in person after a failure to secure visas to the USA.
In lieu of in-person attendance, FURIA will play the Major online from México City, as announced on Twitter. Padua and Twister also confirmed to SiegeGG that the tickets to México had already been purchased.
LATAM teams had been playing the Copa Elite Six until May 1, with the four teams being sent to the Major decided on Apr. 28. FURIA qualified for the Major alongside Team Liquid, w7m esports, and Team oNe.
A similar situation occurred in 2019 at the ESL Pro League Season 10 Finals in Tokoname, Japan, where both FaZe Clan and Ninjas in Pyjamas had to play with stand-ins due to visa issues.
It is currently unclear if the other three Brazilian teams will face the same issue as FURIA.
FURIA are in Group B at the Charlotte Major, alongside Team Liquid, CYCLOPS athlete gaming, and XSET.
EUL team Heroic also had their Bulgarian player Georgi "GorgoNa" Stoyanov face issues with securing a visa. While GorgoNa eventually secured a visa, he revealed on Twitter that "Ubisoft came up with a solution" in case he had failed to do so.
